Wanting to buy some new work clothes now I've shifted some of the baby weight and I bid on 5 pairs of trousers. This was the description

Great condition 1 m and s jeans chocolate grey 70%cotton28% polyester 2% elastene. 1chino style short neutral trousers 98% cotton2% elastene 1black50%cotton5%linen156linen44viscose193%cotton7elastene you will not be disappointed photos do not do justice all immaculate

They've arrived and all 5 of them are short! Out of the not very good description only one says short. I definitely should have checked more but would I be unreasonable to ask for my money back? Genuinely prepared to be told either way- having a bit of a disaster with it all (eBay) as a dress I bought was too big (although that's nice in other ways!)

That's the trouble with buying things online, and eBay in particular. If the length wasn't sepcified, and you didn't ask, then I'm not sure where you stand on a refund. You could certainly contact the seller and explain your disappointment, see what they say.

cakecake · 25/07/2014 16:11

Each seller have different rules on refunds so you could check to see what the policy was on each item! Congrats on losing the baby wait - You must be feeling chuffed with yourself! Grin

PintOfWine · 25/07/2014 16:17

If it's not as described, you can return it (and often ebay will send you a shipping label back so you don't pay return postage.) If the seller doesn't describe it, then it's open to be interpreted "not as described"

And it doesn't matter what the seller says, if it's not as described, ebay will always rule in the buyer's favor.

sarine1 · 25/07/2014 16:19

You can return most things on eBay. If they're a business seller they have to accept returns - just send them a message explaining and asking to return.
If you think they're not as described then contact the seller and ask them for a refund on return (or sell them yourself with a better description and make more money!)

hellsbellsmelons · 25/07/2014 16:21

Check with the seller.
Tell them they are all S and you were not expecting that and because of the description being incorrect that they are not suitable and you cannot wear them.
Could they please refund you and you will return the items.
That's all you can really do to be honest.
Hope it's a good outcome for you though.

SistersOfPercy · 25/07/2014 16:21

cake matters not a jot what the sellers refund policy is. If Princess files a 'not as described' dispute with Paypal she'll get her refund.
As only one pair was described as short she's well within her rights to do that.

She will have to pay to return them (tracked, but My herpes etc wont be expensive) but she will receive her bid money and original postage back and only be out on the return postage.

Princess28 · 25/07/2014 16:39

Won't that just get me bad feedback though? I've only sold a few bits and it's 100% at the moment. Even if it had been 2 of them I'd have taken it and cut those off as shorts as all in it cost £17 and even the charity shops make you pay £5+ for a pair of trousers (and I don't have time to shop) but I can't wear any of them! Might have to sell them on and put it down to experience. Thank you cakecake I'm still hoping to lose more- it definitely wasn't this squishy before!

Giggling a little at "my herpes".

I don't think sellers can give buyers bad feedback unless they don't pay.

sarine1 · 25/07/2014 16:44

Sellers can't give buyers bad feedback. If it turns difficult with the seller then put her on your blocked bidder list if you're worried about retaliation but it should be OK. Returns are just part of selling online.
EBay will help you if the seller's difficult.

SistersOfPercy · 25/07/2014 16:44

Princess no, sellers haven't been able to leave buyers negative or neutral for a while.
It will probably cost you £4 to send them back and you'll get your £17 back. I really would return them.

sarine1 · 25/07/2014 16:45

Sellers can't give negative feedback to buyers ever or even leave a critical comment under a green dot - that's reportable to eBay.

Kimaroo · 25/07/2014 16:46

But what did you think they would be? If they don't mention a length they I would either enquire or assume they were all the same. You say not as described but they are as described unless I'm missing something.

SistersOfPercy · 25/07/2014 16:49

Kimaroo the seller said this:

Great condition
1 m and s jeans chocolate grey .
1chino style short neutral trousers
1black

The fact that she's noted only one pair as short would suggest that pair were different to the other three.

PintOfWine · 25/07/2014 17:31

Open a case. Attach photos (best with tape measure next I them indicating clearly just how short thy are) and send to seller. If the seller agrees to refund after you return, call up ebay and tell them you don't feel it's fair you should be out of pocket x amount to cover return postage through no fault of your own. Ebay will look at the case and if you've documented well why, they will email you a prepaid postage label.
