To think other passengers should stop complaining?

I'm on a very long train journey ATM. The train is four mins delayed and the air con is broken- it's absolutely packed and boiling. Sweaty , noisy and smelly.

The train conductor is coming up and down the train handing out bottles of free water, which I think is wonderful and has brightened this journey no end,but there's so many people around me bitching and moaning ' if they think a bottle if water will stop my complaint they've got another thing comingAngry' etc etc-

Aibu to think that actually it's not the trains fault- sometimes things break, sometimes there's delays, there's loads of holiday makers and they're doing they're best by us?

Public transport is not fun- but shut up complaining! I've three hours left of this Sad

Some people are professional moaners, don't let them drag you down to their level, shit happens occasionally!
If it was occasionally that would be fine; it"s the fact it happens regularly that's the issue, especially once you've been commuting for 5+ years. Not many of us have a lot of patience left.

Our local trains don't have air con. I'm often an hour plus travelling to work on a non air conditioned train. Didnt realise it was a problem.

But I bet your train has windows that open Galaxy, the big intercity ones with aircon don't, so when the air con breaks down it gets very hot and very smelly.

I accepted I was u yesterday, but reading through the thread numerous posters have suggested trains I may have been on- none of which I was,( I was travelling Devon to wales) which means there were at least three trains with the same shitty conditions all at once- I have to agree that it doesn't seem to be a one off. In fact I'm starting to think perhaps the inbound journey which was lovely was, in fact, the one off. Shock

We had so many excuses for awful trains, we had a vision of someone throwing darts blindfold at a board.

Right chaps, excuse 18 = no driver
Excuse 12 = points, excuse 3=signalling

The best ones were some idiot sending an electrified train on to the non electrified line. It got stuck 1/2 way with it's pantograph electrical pickup tangled in a bridge.

But the best one was the DF who was late "due to a boat on the line" totally true the canal had flooded, but you really couldn't make that one up.

Don't live in the UK any more, but I'm shocked at the prices people are quoting. Why are the trains so expensive? Are the running costs high, or are all the profits being creamed off - if so by whom?

All the profits are creamed off and they are trying to address decades of underinvestment. So very high cost.

We don't use them as it is invariably cheaper to take the car and pay for parking, even going to Central London.

I regularly do west coast euston- scotland.
130£ open return ticket.
I book a seat in advance if I have enough warning of upcoming trip. I appreciate sometimes that things break or things are subject to delay. But what I hate to see is people having to stand in hot crowded carriages who have paid same ticket price as everyone else.
Train companies pack people on with no regard for health& safety, it really gets my goat.

usmama- that annoys me too. They don't limit the number of tickets they sell for a train. I think it's actually dangerous, as well as unpleasant and downright offensive to fare paying customers who are treated like cattle.

I travel between London and Scotland about once a month on East Coast.

The price goes up and up, about once every six months I see them adding a few pounds to tickets.

The air conditioning not working is an very regular problem, and I'm only on the trains once a month. In fact, just last week I went up and down and the air con in one of the carriages was broken both ways. So people with booked seats either had to swelter (it was 28 degrees in London that day!) or crowd into the other carriages and hope to find a seat. Heating not working is another common problem in winter.

I would not complain on the train as it is not the conductor's fault and there is nothing he/she can do, and they're already having a bad day. I would (and have) directed my complaint in writing to management.

As someone says above: it's not about 'would you want them to cancel the train'? It's about them using the really high fares for more regular maintenance, as the air con problem happens far, far too regularly. And it is properly horrible to sit in a baking carriage.
