To go out tonight & leave sick-ish child with babysitter?

DS2 age 6 has been sick twice this morning. But not violently and no other symptoms - fever etc. he's not a sicky child normally though so obviously something up. Dinner out nearby with friends tonight & babysitter booked (local student who we've used lots). If no more sick, wondering if wrong to ask babysitter to still come & expose her to germs? And wondering if I should be cancelling dinner to be here for him in any case if he's been ill this morning, even if he's OK later?

No, don't. I had a vomiting 9 year old on a flaming sleepover last weekend (admittedly he didn't appear ill when he got here).

After crawling around ds1's bedroom at 3 in the morning with a torch clenched between my teeth cleaning up vomit, so as not to waken the other 4 boys, I don't want to be in the same building as any more up chuckers for a considerable length of time, never mind the same room.

Ask the babysitter, if it was a routine bug, I would still do it.

Working with children has given me the immune system of a bear, but it's only fair to give your babysitter the choice.

Let your babysitter know and give her the option not to come if she's worried about infection. I would happily babysit/nanny for a child in these circumstances, but would be annoyed if I hadn't been forewarned. I've never caught a vomiting bug from looking after a child either, even when clearing up after them, cuddling and comforting etc.

Stay home. End of.Your child. Your responsibility. He will want you if he's feeling poorly not a babysitter.

The babysitter said no. Fair enough really & glad I asked her. He's not been sick again since this morning. But decision made!
