AIBU to be a bit peed off?

My friend is getting married next August. We have been friends for about 13 years. Today she has asked if I would go on her hen-do if she booked a log cabin type thing. I replied probably, but it would depend on how much it was and when (I am a teacher so can't take half days etc.). She replied that it would be a weekend and there are some good deals. Then she put 'you've got loads of savings,I'm sure you can stretch to it lol!' Which I think is a bit ... Off.

Now I do have a lot of savings because I'm starting to look at buying a house and I have saved for a good deposit, which she is aware of and is the reason for mentioning cost. Also, my partner and I have discussed marriage in the next few years so I have some set aside for that. So, while I do have quite a lot of money saved, it is ear-marked!

So AIBU to be a bit peeved off with her reply? Totally will accept if I am.

YANBU, your finacial affairs are absolutely nothing to do with her

Cheeky mare.

I bloody hate hen dos.

Hellokittycat · 24/07/2014 20:25

She probably just being a bit thoughtless as she has different priorities to you at the moment. I'd reply back something like 'ha ha, much as I love you, I'm not going to give up getting a house to go on yr hen do. I'm penny pinching to be able to afford somewhere to live! Let me know when you know costs and hopefully I will be able to make it x'

YANBU but she probably isnt being malicious or insinuating that she wants you to shell out 3k on a hen. More like "Regular should be able to make it, probs can manage to find a couple of hundred for a wrekend away"

You could always try and make a lighthearted response. Id just forget about it tbh. Unless she has a malicious side, id assume it was just a throwaway comment.

Yanbu. I went on a hen do last year and despite being tee total because I was the only single childless one I should share the bills which included their alcoholic drinks....

to be fair though if she is your friend surely you can spend a bit on her hen night. you can't put your entire life on hold while you save. Of course if the hen night costs an obscene amount of money that is different

regularrectangle · 24/07/2014 20:31

Oh I agree to spending money on a hen do, but at the moment I can't afford to spend a lot so it seems a reasonable question. In the next 2 months I hope to be buying a house, we have begun our mortgage application. I have no furniture etc. So I will need to keep money aside. So it seemed a reasonable things to write e.g. I can come if I don't have to spend loads.

If she put "lol" on the end, it was jokey banter, which we are supposed to be able to have with our close friends.
