I have been playing a game called Dragon Age Origins, now towards the end of the game, you are presented with an option to do a deal with a witch, the deal is, someone has to sleep with the witch and knock her up to ensure the lives of 2 people, if you refuse, 1 will die.

Now here is the issue, if you choose to play as a female, one of the 2 men to do this can be your love interest, so as a female character you have 3 options, 1) you refuse and one of the couple will die, 2) You save the other man who can do the DTD losing your love interest in the process 3) You force your love interest to sleep with the witch, despite his obvious disgust.

If you play as a male, you dont have this issue because there are 3 men who can do the deal, thus leaving your romance untouched.

Am I right in thinking that it is actually sexist against female gamers (the makers of this game and other games, seem intent of having female characters as lesbians) and its also a bit gross in forcing someone into a sexual situation they obviously dont want? Not very equal is it?

Is this really bothering you? Confused

How the hell are Bioware intent on making female characters lesbians??? You just talk to a man and he thinks you're in love. Lesbian romances are thin on the ground and more difficult. Pretty realistic, but still annoying.

Anyway I don't even understand your point, if you romanced Zevran instead your relationship would be just fine, and still nice and straight(?!). Your point is really about playing as a female character who romances Alistair. But you have 4 choices, Alistair, Zevran, Leliana or no-one, and in any of those last 3 cases what you've said doesn't apply.

rinabean · 24/07/2014 17:54

I also think it's more sexist that Alistair calls Morrigan a bitch and wants to kill her just because she doesn't fawn over him... and that, especially with certain origins, every man in the game is calling you a bitch and wants to rape you...

Never thought I would see an AIBU about DA:O though, this is great

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 24/07/2014 17:55

Sorry I meant in Romancing Alistairs. and have you played Mass Effect 3? You'd have no male romances if you kill off Kaidan and dont Romance Garrus, not much for equality.

No idea what ur talking about but loving it!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 24/07/2014 18:03

I love DA:O apart from that scene in which your character effectively says, "Hi, to save my life, you have to go and make demon spawn with a witch, whose mother is an actual dragon."

I played the same game for around 7 years, I love lower skilled player with a sexist attitude. Let's just say this my corp are on teamspeak wetting themselves knowing what's going to happen.

Sexism in games is rife.

There's actually loads of casual sexism in Dragon Age Origins/2. I remember the first time I played it and there's an early like that says 'I swear I'm the bravest one here and I'm a woman.'

I was like Hmm

But I honestly don't think the Morrigan situation at the end reeks of sexism like you say. Bad writing maybe... Wink

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 24/07/2014 18:31

Bad writing, I can agree with that.
