Why men can and women cannot?

Go shirtless in this heat. Nobody minds a shirtless man, but a woman would be done for indecent exposure.
It is such inequality, so UNFAIR (stomping feet)
:(

I dont like seeing a shirtless man unless its in specific contexts.

I find it a bit intimidating actually

VioletHare · 24/07/2014 16:01

Distasteful, sometimes yes...but why intimidating?

Step · 24/07/2014 16:14

I'd rather wear a summer dress than a shirt and tie!

curiousgeorgie · 24/07/2014 17:07

I hate seeing a shirtless man in any other setting than a beach, a pool or possibly my bedroom...

I judge.

ThatBloodyWoman · 24/07/2014 17:12

I don't mind seeing a shirtless man if he's comfy, or a woman in a skimpy boob tube or vest top, whatever her shape or size.
I am uncomfortable with topless women simply because culturally I am unused to it.
I'm unsure what we can do to change that tbh.

Brodicea · 24/07/2014 17:15

wally thanks for the lurid imagery! Grin hee hee

Pantone363 · 24/07/2014 17:17

I had a thread about this a while back. I hate that even on the beach in the UK it is unacceptable to be topless.

I've found a secluded beach near the creek that I go topless at now. Haven't seen anyone there for months.

MissMole · 24/07/2014 17:21

I mind shirtless men unless in what I would consider an appropriate context such as beach, sunbathing generally or in the privacy of your own home.
Shirtless women would freak me out unless in similar context.
Equality.

ThatBloodyWoman · 24/07/2014 17:24

I actually feel more comfortable seeing an older man with his moobs out than a young bloke swanking down the road like gods gift, though.

Bluebelljumpsoverthemoon · 24/07/2014 17:34

I don't see anything wrong with shirtless men or women. If people want to flaunt it, let them. If people have a problem with it from an aesthetic point of view then that's an argument for improving the nations looks. Ban junk food and video games, not partial nudity!!!

Picklepest · 24/07/2014 17:52

Ugly anyone is not nice really. Only pretty people allowed

Alisvolatpropiis · 24/07/2014 17:56

Not sure why men "can" and women can't. Wish men wouldn't though.

The type of men I see walking around the city centre shirtless are the same men I see drinking cans of Stella and flagons of cider though.

I like the law in Florida. Shirts on in public unless at a beach/public pool.

gamescompendium · 24/07/2014 17:59

Trousers can still be cool in this hot weather. I've been wearing linen trousers and thin cotton shirts and they feel cooler than a (work appropriate) jersey dress.

choirmumoftwo · 24/07/2014 18:03

Saw a woman in a clothes store yesterday wearing tiny shorts (okay) and the most miniscule bikini top I've ever seen. Honestly, she was showing more than she was covering!! Just not appropriate in that environment to my mind.

callamia · 24/07/2014 18:03

I saw an idle chap out this morning complete with umbilical hernia. That was a little gross. I think going shirtless anywhere where it wouldn't also be fine for women to be in a bikini top is a bit uncouth.

WorraLiberty · 24/07/2014 18:04

I don't like seeing people walking around without their tops on

But I would like to be able to sunbathe topless in any park or on any beach or swim in any pool without my top half covered.

No-one died because they saw a female nipple, instead of a male one.

MaryWestmacott · 24/07/2014 18:04

A lot more places have 'shirts must be worn' rules, our local Tescos and Sainsburys do (however, I live in a very middle class town, where going around shirt less just isn't the done thing )

Agree that men get the rough end of the stick in most work places, most men still need to wear suit trousers and ties, giving up on jackets is allowed, but most do hve to wear very hot clothing, whereas most woman's summer clothes are a lot cooler.

Shodan · 24/07/2014 18:11

"

Ah, but that's because bosoms have to be Covered Up, as they are Weapons of Mass Distraction. If bosoms were on display all over the place, menz would stop concentrating on the road/on their jobs/on Important Stuff and would gawk at all the bosoms. Then there would be huge pile-ups of cars, those diggity-digger things they use to make holes in the road would run amok, cranes would drop heavy loads everywhere- the list goes on. Total chaos and destruction.

No, best keep bosoms where they belong, under clothes. And on Page 3, where menz can study the female form in a safe environment.

deakymom · 24/07/2014 18:15

my dd screamed in town WHY IS THAT MAN NAKED! cue everyone in the town looking at him! he had just removed his shirt he put it on and practically ran out of town

DogCalledRudis · 25/07/2014 08:03

I wonder if it would be offensive to wear a small bikini top on the street/park. My figure isn't of a prima ballerina but so what...

EBearhug · 25/07/2014 08:09

I'm currently rethinking the no clothes thing, which I have been doing in the privacy of my own home. I have mossie bites everywhere.

Dunkling · 25/07/2014 08:12

I mind. it makes me cringe seeing a topless man anywhere but his own garden or on the beach. Common, common, common. Don't care how fat or how buff he is.

QueenofLouisiana · 25/07/2014 08:22

Our Tescos has a sign up asking everybody to have a top on in the store. I don't want anyone's sweaty bod on display in the chiller aisle thanks!

QuinionsRainbow · 25/07/2014 12:17

But often, its women who can and men who can't. DH often grumbles that when we go out somewhere semi-formal or formal, I can effectively wear as much or as little (within reason) as I like, while he is much more restricted in his choice of clothes. If it's hot, we ladies can wear sleeveless or off-the-shoulder tops, lightweight skirt or trousers/shorts at a length that we choose, bare our midriffs and legs and forget socks - if it's cold we're equally respectable in a jumper or heavyweight top, long skirt or trousers, etc. etc. Incongruously, the more formal the occasion, the more flesh we can display. Men, on the other hand, can't get away with this degree of exposure, especially on formal occasions where sleeved shirts, jackets and ties are expected. So perhaps not so unfair after all.

ChickenMe · 25/07/2014 12:29

It's the nipple that kills it isn't it? As in, you could probably get away with the skimpiest top but if the nips are out its game over. An alarm goes off or something.
