Eeek, bladder question post baby!!

Shamelessly posting for traffic. So yes, IABU already...

My sister has a two week old baby and is staying with me (her dh has finished paternity leave and works insane hours).

She thought she had a urine infection and is on day 4 of antibiotics. But I'm really worried it might be a bladder prolapse - she says she feels like she needs a wee all the time but only a tiny bit comes out (of none at all).

I googled. And now I'm worried for her!

Is the feeling of having a full bladder something that happens with an infection? Is that a possibility?

Am hoping there are lots of lovely people on here who've had some experience of post birth infections!

Yes I have had that sensation when I have had a UTI. I also felt a bit like that for about a month after giving birth then everything seemed to get better. Make sure she is doing her pelvic floor exercises.

I am very prone to UTIs and that's a classic symptom for me. And now I'm 22 weeks pregnant, I often feel like I need to go but there's very little there, even though I don't have a UTI (checked regularly by my HCPs). So I wouldn't be too worried. Like OlderMummy says, pelvic floor exercises are the key, but she should also get her urine tested just in case she needs antibiotics.

Pregnancy: the stealer of dignity!

Sounds like my UTI too, but with a burning fire that made me cry!

KnackeredMuchly · 24/07/2014 07:11

Ps - I have a mild bladder prolapse (cystocele), it causes me no complications or symptoms at all.

fluffyraggies · 24/07/2014 07:36

I used to be plagued with cystitis (UTI) and can confirm that yes, you feel as if you are desperate to wee all the time, yes, when you get there you wait for relief but you only pass a few drops (because there's nothing much there), and yes, it stings like buggery.

I'm sure your sister has been advised this already, but i would strongly advise drinking a BIG glass of water every hour. It flushes your system, dilutes the urine so it doesn't burn so much when you wee.

BocaDeTrucha · 24/07/2014 07:40

You will need to really encourage her to do her Pf exercises as straight after birth, especially if it das a big baby/forceps etc she will feel like her pelvic floor is non existent and its quite distressing tbh. But it's so important she keeps at it.

GodDamnBatman · 24/07/2014 08:32

When I had a UTI I felt like I had to pee every 5 minutes. It was terrible. Car rides were hell.

Drinks lots and lots of cranberry juice. :)

HypodeemicNerdle · 24/07/2014 10:00

Poor her

A warm bath with baking soda in it might help her, bit TMI but it won't hurt her to wee so much if she does it in the bath

sleepsforwimps2010 · 24/07/2014 11:00

I used to pour a jug of tepid water between my legs as I peed, kept stitches clean and ment less sting from uti!
stealer of dignity is right!!

PoppySeed2014 · 24/07/2014 14:04

Thanks all! Both really reassured by your posts. Bugger off uti!
