Dd had a really bad night on Thursday and I missed "The honourable woman" but thought Ohh it's ok I van catch up on iplayer but the bloody thing has been down all weekend and now although the smart tv app is back up and working it won't let me watch anything that isn't on the highlights page.

Sorry I know it's a first world problem but it's the first thing worth watching since the last season of Sherlock ended!!

What make is your smart where's? Mine is an LG and is working.
Wonder if it's model specific? Have you tried doing a software update on your tv?

wheresthelight · 22/07/2014 09:14

It's a Samsung and no update available as that was my first thought at the weekend!

Bbc acknowledge there is still a fault and it is working as long as I only wanna watch what's on the highlights page

I'm sure the team responsible for iplayer will tell you that's fine. There's plenty of choice there and you don't need to watch the other stuff.

It might make a mockery of their reasoning that, yes they've removed all the features users wanted, but at least it works reliably now.

LadybirdsAreFab · 22/07/2014 09:27

Have a look at Most Popular rather than Highlights page, it is on there. We often find more interesting things on the Most Popular page rather than Highlights

MilkandCereal · 22/07/2014 09:28

Mine is a Samsung too,and Iplayer was working for me yesterday. It's odd.

No idea if it's still working now though.

OnlyLovers · 22/07/2014 09:36

What's Bad Salsa?

Oh, and if we're talking shite, has anyone tried Channel 4's player? UTTER shambles, EVERY time. I must write them a stiff email, actually.

Hope you get to catch up with THW, OP it's better than Sherlock actually IMO.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/07/2014 09:56

Oh God. The horror that is 4OD. For some bizarre reason I can't get any TV signal here, so everything is watched online.

I have to really, really want to watch something to make navigating 4OD worthwhile. And then when you find what you are looking for it doesn't always play.

demand5 is OK to navigate, but looking at the comments underneath each program I get the feeling I'm he only person who can get anything to play.

SistersOfPercy · 22/07/2014 09:57

4od I found completely perfect on now tv, not so much as a stutter and I tend to watch that a lot. Can't tell you what it's like on smart tv because helpfully LG doesn't support channel 4 or ITV.

wheresthelight · 22/07/2014 11:26

wouldn't even load the most popular page last night!!

Is now working and i am able to watch YAY and better yet dd (11months) has gone down for a nap so am watching it in peace

We can't get 4oD on computers only on phones. Constant 'digital rights issue' for the last year. None of the suggested fixes work.

SistersOfPercy · 22/07/2014 14:07

Ood, Now TV boxes have all the catchup channels and can be used without paying a subscription. The basic box is £9.99 with £2.50 cash back through Top Cash Back.

If you are especially technically minded you can flash the box and install Plex Media server, install the same program on your laptop and all the content of your laptop (movies, iTunes etc) will appear via the Now TV box.

Oodlives · 22/07/2014 15:04

We have the laptop hooked into one tv and some on demand thing through the DVD player on the other. Just 4OD won't work on anything other than the iPhones. I assume there's something different on the app to website but can't get to the bottom of it.

SistersOfPercy · 22/07/2014 15:55

I have the LG Smart 3D. Pissed me off no end that this stupidly expensive TV only had 5od and iPlayer, Now TV was my solution.

The plex media server hack is just genius. DH has lots of movies and TV shows on his laptop. As long as Plex is installed and the laptop open the now box works as a media server and we can see the content of his laptop on the TV. We have 3 Now boxes in the house, living room, bedroom and DD's room. This means I can go to bed and watch movies streamed from his laptop downstairs without so much as a glitch. It's utterly brilliant.

This explains it a bit more:

Of course the other advantage is all of the catchup channels are on there along with other apps like Tune In Radio, Spotify and TED. Don't know what I did without it now tbh.
