There have been no fines issued, mum was told no when requesting a holiday form

Yes, assuming that the school were indeed aware of all the detail in the article, the HT is either weak (in not using his legal powers to authorise exceptionally) or just nasty (hope not).

But if the parents hadn't explained a medical need for a specific type of holiday, and unavailability outside term dates (and the relevant medical factors about why they cannot book ahead as others would), I can see why misunderstandings could occur. And it is a great shame that they have to be played out in the press, rather than sorted out with the HT (as s/he is the person where responsibility lies).

Not yet, but I cannot understand why she was denied a holiday form, especially under the circumstances.

She hasn't been fined, she has been told she can't have an authorised holiday. That doesn't automatically equate to a fine being given.

Without getting into the rights and wrongs of it though, its not down to the school they are tied with the rules as to what they can authorise and not and holidays cant be authorised

What Auntie said.

I've a feeling this is half a story

YouTheCat · 21/07/2014 10:51

Schools don't fine. Local Authorities do.

diaimchlo · 21/07/2014 10:52

Looking at the child's medical conditions I would think the school would be aware.

There is a FB backlash against this, so I imagine any possibility of a fine will be dropped.

My DD attends a SN school.

When they have building work done (old school constantly patched up), it runs massively over time, school transport is stopped after more than two snowflakes have dropped.

There are days were they did nothing, because of a taffing issues, one boy was allowed to take in his X Box, my DD was happy on the school computers and watching films.

I've had to make threats to get homework sent home.

She has never received the Speech Thearpy that she should of.

I wish the parents of under performing schools could use the fine process, especially SN schools.

I could pay for top quality speech therapy for what I would if collected.

I did have to threaten the LEA with our local Newspaper, when I received a phone call asking why my children were in, on the morning of their Dads funeral.

They'd had time off, but needed it to say goodbye to him.

These blanket policies don't work in children's best interests.

I hope he gets his holiday and all this comes to nothing.
