They seem to have an easier time of it than we did. There are far more social networks for them, and I bet it's a hell of a lot easier for them to get boyfriends and girlfriends!

The problem with that is you get the accusations of people, especially women and girls, only being part of a fandom because it's now mainstream and cool.

I saw a brilliant response to these sort of accusations by a female fan of (i think) role play/fantasy type stuff. Wish i could remember her name or what it was called. It truly was awesome.

Yabu. I said this on your last thread, you have a sore case of nice guy syndrome. You weren't avoided because you were a geek when you were younger. You were avoided because of your nice guy syndrome. "Geeks" who get girls now aren't getting them because geeks are more accepted. They are getting them because they are nice people and they happen to connect with someone. It's just more visible these days because of media and social networking. These "geeks" were getting girls back when you were young too. You just weren't one of them. Unfortunately the fact it's in the media does mean it's likely that others guys with nice guy syndrome will become more bitter about it (like you are).

I think there is a lot more freedom this day to think and feel what you want and stand up for your interests and abilities.

However, there is no escape for teens from their friends and enemies which must be incredibly suffocating at times.

Tbh I think the world is getting easier for teen boys and harder for teen girls.

Girls aren't going for geeks, they're going for hot guys in glasses. :)

I would say most geeks that have girlfriends are socially aware and have good people skills. You can be intelligent and still charming. But it is more accepted to be a bit awkward in a charming Jennifer Lawrence sort of way.
