Today the cowboy builder was drilling from when we got home at about 5. Just outside our front window. At half 6 I asked if he's going to be much longer because we're having dinner and baby needs to go to bed soon. He tells me it's daylight and other people are making noise. I told him I think the council say noise needs to stop at about 5. He says he's working till 7 and we can shut our windows.
We had to. It's bloody hot.

Sigh.

I'm having a bbq tomorrow and it will be the same thing.

We're going to have to listen to those idiots all day.

AIBU to think they're taking the piss a bit by working till 7 on a weekday let alone a Saturday and Sunday.

I don't think no Sunday work is dated. We looked forward to Sunday so much when we had this going on next door for over a year.

I have complained to the neighbour, but he & his wife don't give a damn, they are just set on making a profit and that means hiring the cheapest builders. Because they do not belong to any trade body they have nothing to lose, and the neighbours will have moved on to their next project before the shoddy work shows. I have spoken to the council about the vans across or even on my drive, and I have taken photos, but there is never a traffic warden around when you want one! Beyond constant complaints and arguments I am not sure what I can do. It's not illegal to renovate houses noisily, and because I am out at work all day I can't keep them off my drive or garden. I have been promised that a fence is going up shortly, and I just cannot wait for them to be finished and gone.
