why can't I buy hairclips with pirates, diggers or space rockets on?

I can't find any non girly hairclips for dd. Sure I can get plain colours or gingham but in Clare's accessories there were 4 types of unicorn and no vehicles. Is my 3yo dd unreasonable wanting fast, heavy and dangerous stuff on her hair accessories and should she just crop her hair or put up with pink ponies and flowers.

My ds is a Brony, so has plenty of unicorn related interests, but that's the point really, some boys like stereotypically girly stuff and some girls don't. Lots of small children like dinosaurs, pirates, trucks etc, but girl type accessories (hair stuff being the most obvious as for some reason little girls tend to have long hair - more so than adult women I've observed) generally cater only for the girly end of the market.

I'm sure this is because that's where the manufacturers perceive the market is but it is constraining none the less. Bad enough to see it in clothes and shoes, where at least you can 'cross the isle' but more tricky with hair stuff. Personally I'd cut her hair - I look back on pictures of my dd and think why on earth didn't we get her hair cut short sooner, she looks so much better with short hair and the fights about tangles were terrible. Obviously there are more creative solutions too Grin

Outrageous!

Not...

Pragmatically, the way forward is buttons glued onto hair clips (or even better, boring plain hair clips to get lost, and fabulous tractor/dinosaur/whatever buttons sown onto clothes :) )

Don't get why anybody would want to go down the pirates route (especially with their children) tbh - hostis humani generis. A lot were engaged in the slave trade - especially the barbary corsairs.

But I would be happy if DD let me do her hair at all. She favours "dragged through a hedge backward"....

Probably cos kids like pirates, Georgina.

Simples.

My 4yo dd is a pirate and would disagree.

Having a dinosaur obsessed tom boy 8 year old girl it's never crossed my mind to get her Dino hair clips, she wears her long hair back in a low pony tail everyday with one elastic in it, acceptable colours are black, blue or green.

She's getting her long hair cropped in a week (oh how I've seeped, beautiful waist length blonde hair getting chopped off) but it's what she wants. She said it will still be tied back with just a tiny ponytail.

She's not had anything girly since she could express a preference, right down to her boys pants, she's had Dinosoles shoes and school bag as well.

Make them yourself, all you need is a glue gun and some ribbons, look up tutorials on YouTube, I make loads for DD . I use www.ribbonsandbeads.co.uk
www.theangelshalo.com/m/ and eBay for craft supplies, my dd has superman, tractor and dinosaur bows as well as girly bows
