OK, I know this is not a HUGE problem but it's hot and I'm irritated.

I have a Kindle Fire, bought from Amazon. It came with a sim card in it. I want to add data, so that I can use the Kindle when it is not connected wirelessly. So far, so uncomplicated. However, I can't add data because Amazon insist that the sim card they supplied is a Vodafone sim card and Vodafone say that it is not and that they can't identify which network the card belongs to. The number on my sim card starts 8988 and Vodafone say all their UK sim card numbers start 8944. Vodafone suggest that Amazon have sold me a second hand Kindle with an old sim card in it from outside the UK.

There is a simple answer here, of course, I can just obtain a new sim card. But, and perhaps I am being unreasonable, AIBU to be irritated because that is the solution which Amazon suggested? And that the Amazon guy said that I should only contact customer services if I only wanted to complain, when he had told me what the solution is?

I work with SIM cards and can tell you that all Vodafone SIMs start with 8944.... 8988 is a Chinese SIM as far as I'm aware.

Not U at all to send everything back and tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine.

Typical of today's world where everything is so complicated and fifty phone calls later your hair is all gone.

TalisaMaegyr - interesting, maybe it is a secondhand unit then. The sim card is plain white, so not branded Vodafone

Pinkrose1 I can certainly relate to the 50 phone calls! Started this morning with a call to Amazon "how do I top up data plan", directed to Vodafone "not our sim card" back to Amazon "you sure you supply Vodafone sim cards?" "Yes, patronise, patronise. We can't help you [just sold the goods]. My phone is a Nokia & I wouldn't ring Nokia if I wanted Orange to add data to my plan" Back to Vodafone (slightly cross by now), then to Amazon "solution is for you to get a new sim card" Repeat calls all day until patience is exhausted and hair is all gone. End day with device still unable to connect other than wirelessly...

Can't you just ring vodafone and get a new sim for free?
