to ask about dds attendance?

I was lucky enough to be able to attend the schools attendance assembly today as dd3 was one of only 4 pupils who got 100% in nursery. DD1 I know had had 1 or 2 days off, however I cannot remember dd2 having any days off except one morning I took her in, then picked her up an hour later to go to the walk in clinic to have a septic finger drained then she went back after lunch. I thought she would still have got her mark for this though? Would I be that parent if I ask them to check?

The 100% attenders all got a medal and though I know its not the end of the world for her not to get one, it would be nice.

Oh and if anyone knows-how difficult would it be for them to check? I dont want to give them loads of work on the second from last day!

Doubt it would be much work for them if you just either went into the office to ask or rang them. At the very least they should be able to clarify how attendance is recorded, i.e. if a child goes into register, you then take them out and then come back how this is recorded.

DustyCropHopper · 17/07/2014 13:28

Should be easy to check, our school send out a copy of each child's attendance record with their report. It shows when they have been late, sick days, late days, medical app days etc.

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2014 13:28

It's really simple to check as it's all on their computer.

If she returned after the afternoon register was taken, she probably would have been marked absent for that session.

WillWorkForMoney · 17/07/2014 13:31

She would have been there for afternoon register, actually thinking about it, I think I took her back before lunch because her bandage had come off when she washed her hands. I might drop them a quick email and ask. Can't hurt eh? Thanks

Did they give attendance awards to nursery children?

DD missed out on a 100% medal in Y2, but that was because the whole of her class had been missed out the "attendance certificate generating process" - and it was picked up by her class teacher.

WillWorkForMoney · 17/07/2014 13:48

Yes there was 4 nursery children (out of morning and afternoon) who got the 100%.

I've emailed so we'll see what they say. Maybe I'm just forgetting, but I cannot remember her being off as if she was she'd have to come out driving with me for work, then pick dd3 up at 12.

It was pure luck dd3 getting the 100% as chicken pox were doing the rounds, but dd got them 3 days into the easter holidays!

It should be on their report.

Bit late now though, the awards have all been given out.

They are stupid anyway, punishes the poor kids who have been off through no fault of their own, it's a pile of pish.

WillWorkForMoney · 17/07/2014 14:02

Well yes the awards have been given out, but if I am right they could maybe give her it in tomorrows assembly, and maybe they are stupid, but dd2 will feel its unfair if she has not been off but not got the award.

They also did most improved attendance awards too. One child had an amazing 20% better attendance than last year! It was lovely to see all the winners getting up, proud as punch to get their awards.

This happened to my ds once. It turned out that the person recording the attendance details from the register had accidentally mixed him up with the child who was below him on the register. They adjusted the school's records.

It's worth asking.

Topaz25 · 17/07/2014 14:31

YANBU to ask them to check but the whole idea of attendance awards doesn't seem like a good one to me. Children can't help being ill and there are some things they are not supposed to go to school with, like d&v so they can't just power through but 100% attendance is rewarded like it's a virtue rather than sheer luck. It can't feel very nice for the children that have been ill. Attendance can be affected by factors beyond a child's control. I was chronically ill at school but I'm not bitter about it or anything!

Joysmum · 17/07/2014 14:34

My DD came home ranting a raving about how unfair attendance awards are because people who are sick don't choose to be and that doesn't make then a lesser pupil. I agree.
