To expect some feedback from an interview?

I had an interview last week and it's clear that I didn't get the job or they would have contacted me by now. I would have appreciated an email to let me know though.

I had to move heaven and earth, change my shift, pay for childcare etc to get to the interview and they haven't even had the courtesy to sent me a simple 2 line email. There were 10 applicants, so not millions.

AIBU or is that just the way things are done these days?

Give it time, I think either way they should know if you got the job or not.

I always write to unsuccessful applicants offering feedback. It can take time though - in the most recent case I think it was 8 days before I had all paperwork done for the successful applicant.

Lots of companies, I've found and if you go through a recruiter I've found in past 3-4 years are far more reticent about giving feedback or whether you've got the job.

I can understand the recruiters but the companies themselves it's plain rude.

Ah OP - just seen your interview was recently. In our office in past 2 weeks we've had work experience people, holiday takers (with temps) so maybe they're just snowed under and haven't got round to replying?

YANBU.

This happened to me a couple of years ago. They only interviewed about 5 people. A week later, I still hadn't heard anything so I called and the feedback I got was from the guy who gave me a glass of water before I went into the interview. He said "sorry you didn't get it, but I think they said you were quite good".

I figured it was a lucky escape in the end. Who would want to work for them?

It is the norm these days I'm afraid.

IME they might also have offered the job to someone, but keeping some other candidates in the back burner in case the first choice falls through.

Not flattering, but practical as far as they're concerned.

Good luck with the job hunt OP

I should have mentioned - they said they would let everyone know that very same evening which is why I eventually rang up after a week. I knew I hadn't got it but I wanted feedback and for them to at least say so.
