I would rather work longer hours for 3- 3.5 days a week just to have more consecutive days off. When I have a long weekend followed by a short week I am much more cheerful and productive. Bring in a 4 day weekend! Grin

Yeah i know what you mean galaxy I,m a nurse we do two long days two short days although short days are not that short at eight hours ! Long days are twelve hours with an hour break in theory in reality there is usually no qualified staff to cover the break on my days off i!,m usually to exhausted to enjoy them .

We work in a fortnight 8 x 9hrs + 1 x 8hrs and get every 2nd Friday off. Tis a dream come true. Some companies here do 8x10 hrs and get both Fridays off.

YANBU. I used to dream about this when I was commuting.

honeybeeridiculous · 17/07/2014 20:15

I do 120 hours a month, 13 hour shifts, so some weeks have 2 days in, other days have 3 days. I love it
YANBU

I agree with pp that you're only actually productive for X number of hours per day anyway. Enforced longer days would just lead to people stretching out the work available to fill the day
My work is really flexible so I can do long days if have a deadline/am on a roll but I couldn't sustain it for 4 days per week

Surely it depends on the job, and perhaps also the time of year.

YANBU. I was on placement recently and worked Mon-Wed 8-1540, Thurs 8-17, Fri 8-1230. Having htat friday afternoon was a real godsend. Just enough time to do shopping, run errands, get haircut etc. I didnt feel exhausted at the end of the week. It was wonderful!

I was delighted to swap to four ten hour shifts.....thinking of the days off.....until reality hit me!

Working days were hell on earth. I was exhausted and home so late it was eat then bed. Then up early.

My days off were then spent washing, ironing, shopping, paying bills, sorting problems out, like arranging the boiler to be repaired, trips to the dentist, doctor, hairdresser. Visits from family and friends I hadnt got a chance to see during my four working days......it was honestly chaos! I spent my three days off catching up.

I went back to five normal days, at least then I could see family, friends, shop, cinema trip, meal out, few drinks in front of tv before bed....far more civilized!

I agree Forall, I can be productive for a full long day - once I get into something it's annoying to leave it and then it takes me longer to get back into it the next day. I understand not all jobs lend themselves to that though!
