to tell her why she's lonely?

I have a friend who I haven't known for long. Friendship started well. We would go out for meals, put the world right etc! She didn't know anyone in this town as she had moved here for work. I tried to make her feel welcome.

Then she met a guy. Texts stopped, she never asked to meet up and was always too busy to do anything when I text. They were busy every weekend. Now he must be away as she has posted on facebook how lonely she is here. Maybe I should just feel sympathetic but wibu to tell her she's lonely because she ditched friends for a guy?

I wouldn't be sympathetic: she could have just texted you if he's away, but instead she went on Facebook to have a whinge.

Her whole life is played out on facebook!

Just ignore unless she contacts you directly.

LongTimeLurking · 17/07/2014 06:32

Ah yes, the type of 'friend' who wants your time when they have nothing better to do. Perfect.

Ignore her IMO, you don't need 'friends' like this.

Woopsiedaisy · 17/07/2014 06:33

It sounds like you have invested more in this friendship than she did.

Facebook has so much to answer for. Some find the allure of masses of aquaintances more exciting than true friendship. It is easy to pop onto FB, throw in a random comment about your life and receive affirmation that dozens of people still 'like' you.

Real friendship takes work and it appears that she just doesn't want or know how to reciprocate the efforts you have made.

I would ignore her !!

Hold on. When someone meets a new romance they are always totally absorbed in them for at least the first three months.

With friends I've always given them that 3 months grace when they've met someone new.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 17/07/2014 06:38

Ignore her attention seeking. Focus on people who have time for you.

Thumbwitch · 17/07/2014 06:58

YANBU to think that, but I really wouldn't waste your breath telling her so.

Thanks everyone. I have to say I'm sick of being overlooked. This 'friend' is not the only one.

Aw she's been all loved up and now she's surfacing

elvenbread · 17/07/2014 17:42

Yup guess so missmay but I know I didn't treat my friends like that when I was loved up.

She's just put another message up about being lonely.

Ignore her, OP.
