To be seriously considering buying a recorder?

Yes, sort of a TAAT.

I'm a lapsed oboe player, good in my youth but sold oboe and cor to go travelling. DM was heartbroken. I really miss it now, but can't afford to get back in the game - instrument and reeds (I don't have time or skill to make my own).

I sing in the school choir, which I love, but isn't v challenging. I used to sing outside of work but don't have time and most choirs round here seem to finish c.10pm weeknights Shock

I have a piano but rarely play as I really miss woodwind; I've spent the past hour googling early music shops. A tenor recorder - I fancy a good bassline these days - is 44.50.

Should I?

The answers I was hoping for :)

Playing really helps my anxiety too.

Yes, definitely, but if you really want to play a bass line, get a bass! Much more fun than a tenor, although they all have their place.

'Proper' recorder players play a range of sizes, I expect you know that already.

Is there an adult recorder ensemble near you which you can join?

Recorders are ace. Very underrated as an instrument.

We have a £2 bright orange plastic descent recorder from asda (actually belongs to to ds1) and it is remarkably tuneful for the price so I pay it quite a lot. We also have a wooden one that I found in a charity shop, which has a much nicer tone, but I keep it on a high shelf because it is less eat to clean.

A decent quality tenor recorder... go for it!

I'm a flautist but can't leave it lying around due to curious toddler! So I keep an alto out all the time in case I want to blast out a tune. I've also got a tin whistle in my bedroom and a descant recorder in a drawer in the hall... I think they're awesome. :-) If money was no object I would buy all the sizes of flute, but it's just not practical!

I used to play as a child properly I went to grade 3 and I played the clarinet too. I miss it. You should do it. You have inspired me to get one too!

middle I do know a bit about it, not too much though. I played descant at school and can pick out tunes ok.

I'm quite interested in getting lots of baroque music and looking into authentic recorder music. Will start with tenor :)

Absolutely super idea! I teach it as a class based activity to 12-15 yr olds and I love teaching it. Such an expressive instrument. I'm seriously considering going back to cello lessons. I would play baroque continuo lines all day long...,

I did exactly this! Go for it!
