To think that my neighbour should of warned me they were sandblasting?

Come home from a day out with 6mo DS to find that my neighbour has sandblasted, without warning us. Had she warned us I would of moved the car, and shut the windows.

Wibu to say something? And what would I say?

I'm a bit of a wuss in these situations but I can't help but feel she's a bit in the wrong here!

It is only good manners to warn neighbours if you are going to do work that risks causing mess on their property. YANBU to think she should have told you in advance.

I assume that the sandblasting has created a mess - you say your windows were open - is that your car windows or house windows, and has the mess got into the car/house? Either way, I would be showing her the mess that has been made, and asking her what she is going to do to sort it out.

IceBeing · 16/07/2014 16:15

don't say it don't say it don't say it

sorry sorry sorry

ChunkyPickle · 16/07/2014 16:16

Any damage caused? Go round and ask her to claim on her or her worker's insurance to fix it.

monkeyfacegrace · 16/07/2014 16:17

ice that's the only part I picked up on Grin

We are obviously both twats.

Sorry op, I have no idea what sandblasting is, but it's affected your property then yes, you should have been warned

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 16/07/2014 16:17

Ice that's all I picked up too.

Ohbollocksandballs · 16/07/2014 16:18

Ice, sorry! Annoyance has taken over!

SDT, the house windows were open. Car windows closed but you can barely see the damn thing.

No it is me that is sorry....I don't normal give in to the grammar bug but I couldn't hold it in...

gah.....

IceBeing · 16/07/2014 16:20

back on topic I would really be very very angry if my neighbours did that. I don't know if that is unreasonable or not but I would be livid.

Ohbollocksandballs · 16/07/2014 16:26

I am pretty livid to be honest. When I spoke to the worker he said that she had told them she'd been round and warned all the neighbours. He was very apologetic but it's not his fault!

I would definitely be showing her the mess and asking her how she plans to sort it out! And YANBU to be very cross!

LastTango · 16/07/2014 16:28

Oh Ice - you did it for me ! I was itching..........really itching!

WhereTheWildlingsAre · 16/07/2014 16:28

Phew!! I'm not the only one.

Icimoi · 16/07/2014 16:30

Oh dear, is your house full of dust? I'd be really tempted to ask them to pay for urgent specialist cleaning.

angelohsodelight · 16/07/2014 16:31

Have you checked for damage? It's means cleaning the car but check now.

Thankfully I'd had the blinds and curtains shut so that's stopped the worst of it. Had to bring DS round to my Mums, poor little mite was coughing like crazy.

Photos.

Letter asking for compensation - car cleaning/ house clean etc.

Gov.Uk says that if carrying out work on/ near a party wall then "you must protect your neighbour’s property from damage caused by the works, and fix or pay for any damage that is caused"

www.gov.uk/party-walls-building-works/overview

However it is impossible to know if this applies without knowing what work they were carrying out.

Such disputes can also get pretty expensive.

Ohbollocksandballs · 16/07/2014 16:34

Angel the chap doing the work is cleaning it for me in 20 minutes. Will be checking for damage before they leave.

Look at all the clever people on this thread.

You really are superior beings

magicstar1 · 16/07/2014 16:35

Don't wipe off the car...wash it off with a hose or you'll scratch all the paintwork (if it's not already damaged)

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/07/2014 16:36

Take photos of the mess now, before he cleans up.

Ohbollocksandballs · 16/07/2014 16:38

lurker I'm not sure if the front of her house would be classed as a party wall.

I wouldn't start any legal proceedings really. I just don't want to look like a twat when I go to speak to her.

sdt I took pics just before I left the house, it's probably worse now!
