I don't know if I am being PFB or sensible?

I am taking a trip home (another country) next week. My DM has very kindly borrowed a car seat for me to use during the trip to save me bringing my DS' car seat. I should point out that it is no hassle at all for me to bring the car seat and she sourced this other car seat from a family member without my prior knowledge but is trying to be helpful.

The car seat she has borrowed is a Maxi Cosi Tobi which is suitable from a weight of 9kg. DS is 8kg (8 months) and puts on roughy .5kg a month so he is about 2 months away from being the minimum weight for this car seat.

I worry that should the worst happen he will be too small for the car seat and wouldn't be protected properly.
AIBU to say thank you but no thank you and use DS' own car seat?

(please be gentle!)

i have no idea why people are willing to put their car seats on a plane, how you seen how roughly bagage handlers throw your suitcases around....

TakingTheStairs · 16/07/2014 11:18

I think in Heathrow most of the baggage handling is automated and goes into those metal bins that are loaded on rather than each bag being physically handled SarcyMare, though I'm fully open to correction on that.

Iggi, last time I was there she had borrowed an original 1950s Silver Cross pram to take DS out and about in. While beautiful, it didn't exactly fit into the boot of DM's fiat 500 and also wouldn't fit through the porch door! Grin

Update
Not only did DM understand why I said no thank you to the borrowed car seat, she went out and bought the exact same one that I have already so that I wouldn't have to bring one over and it would clip on to DS' buggy.

So no offence taken by DM with the refusal and no worries about putting the car seat in the hold. Win all around Grin

Your Mum sounds lovely Grin She wants her precious grandchild to stay as safe as possible by the sound of it.

How does it get into the crate and out of the crate onto the carrousel?

TakingTheStairs · 16/07/2014 21:22

I thought it was all pretty much automated Sarcy. There was a BA program on tv recently that showed how it worked. Though that may have only been in T5 that they have this new system.

Squinkies, you're dead right. I swear she loves DS more than she loved us (not really!)
