To ask for positive induction stories?

I am 37+1 an posted last week regarding small growth and had lots of advice which I was grateful for.

Anyway I've been in hospital all weekend as experienced reduced fetal movements. CTGs showed a regular heartbeat but almost flatlined, like baby is asleep all of the time.

Dr yesterday has said I can have an induction as have now had 3 episodes of reduced fetal movement. I had an attempted sweep where dr said cervix is soft but couldn't reach membranes completely. I'm due to have another sweep tomorrow and dr has said they will arrange a date for induction if I want it. I feel I do as the last couple of weeks have been very stressful. Dr has also said as I have had one vaginal birth already they're confident the same will happen again.

So what should I expect in the sweeps don't work? I'm sure I'll be given cautionary tales but would like to hear of positive experiences!!

Sorry no, I don't have a positive induction story. In fact after induction with dc1 I opted for c section over induction for dc2. Horrible process. I'd ask for a section instead if I was you.

I've got one it was fine pessary worked first time quite liked the calm drive to hospital then ongoing monitoring the lack of am I aren't i in labour drama. I'd have another without concern.

Florrieboo · 15/07/2014 07:46

I had a wonderful induction at 39 weeks, it was simply ARM and less than 2 hours later with no pain medication I was holding my 8lb 10oz baby boy in my arms. It was perfect.
It is possible to have a wonderful birth experience with induction, mine was pretty much ideal.

notadoctor · 15/07/2014 07:49

I had an unexpected induction because my waters broke with no contractions and DS was showing signs of distress. I had a chemical drip - on the downside the contractions were very strong with not much let up between them. On the plus side it was very quick and DS arrived safe and sound in just a couple of hours. DS was being monitored throughout and so I was on my back for longer than I'd have liked to be but they did help me onto all fours when I asked which made to much easier to labour. It was very different to my first birth experience (DD was a very zen water birth) but based on my own experiences I wouldn't have any qualms on being induced again.

Teddybeau1988 · 15/07/2014 07:49

I had an induction with DD2. I had a pessary in for 24 hours, did naff all. Then I was left overnight as you need a break between doses. In the morning they couldn't manage to break my waters, so gave a tablet instead. Contractions started straight away. Hubby arrived late morning, moved to delivery after lunch and DD was born at 6pm. The sitting around drove me mad to begin with, but it was a lovely birth.

I was also induced with DS three months ago and that was a completely different experience though!

wigglesrock · 15/07/2014 07:50

My dd2 was an induction, it was by far the "easiest" (I'm using that term lightly), of all 3 of my kids. I was given 2 pessaries at 6am, I kept active all day, walking about the corridor, having baths. I was monitored on a machine for 30 mins but apart from that wandered about. I didn't have the need for a drip, I had an active labour, gave birth kneeling at the side of the bed.

No interventions, it was the most in control I've felt in my 3 labours.

Idrinktoomuchireallydo · 15/07/2014 07:54

I was induced with all three of mine. Two with pessaries and one on a drip. All normal births with no complications.

Pat45 · 15/07/2014 07:54

I was induced with my second baby and it was no problem at all. I was induced at about 10.00pm and baby arrived two hours and ten minutes later. It was a darn sight easier that with my first who went on for about 10 hours and then got dragged out by forceps. The second birth was actually almost an enjoyable experience. Good luck and try not to worry.

littlemissbossyshoes · 15/07/2014 07:57

I has a really positive induction. I was given the peesary at about 11.30 and started having contraction more or less straight away
i had a very straight forward labour and my dd was born at 3.00

QueenoftheVerse · 15/07/2014 07:58

I had a difficult back to back labour with DS1, it was very very painful and took a long time. I lost a baby in 2011 but the labour itself wasn't difficult (IYSWIM). My pregnancy with DS2 was monitored much more closely because of the one I lost and I had reduced foetal movements and growth slowed so my consultant decided to induce me early, I was just under 38 weeks.

Best decision ever. DS2s labour was over and done with in 2 hours, I only needed gas and air and I felt so connected and in control of his birth in comparison to DS1s. It was honestly like chalk and cheese.

I was very lucky, I had an amazing midwife with me the whole time. I told her I didn't want the drip because I'd heard it could be painful so she argued on my behalf with the consultant. My midwife said that after you've been through labour your body remembers what to do so it might be that you don't need the drip.

Good luck!! I hope you have a good labour Smile

CalamityClara · 15/07/2014 08:03

I was induced at 37+5 with ds. After a couple of doses of the gel my labour started in what felt like a very natural way, I spent most of my labour sat in a rocking chair enjoying the gas and air :) I needed a shot of pethadine when I got to 8cm which knocked me out! I woke up after a while pushed 3 times and he was born. Didn't need a single stitch and really didn't even feel like I'd just push a 9lb baby out of my fanjo! Grin

ditavonteesed · 15/07/2014 08:11

DD2 Induced, pessary at 9am, baby girl in my arms at lunch time, no stitches and no interventions.

Toizzy · 15/07/2014 08:15

I was induced and had a very "easy" and straightforward delivery Smile

Hoppinggreen · 15/07/2014 08:16

I was induced with DS, the on,y negative was that he REALLY didn't want to move and so it took 2 days of being in hospital to get him started.
Once he did I have my epidural when I wanted and a relatively quick and easy 4 hours of actual labour - think I pushed a total of twice!!
No stitches and up having a shower 2 hours later and home 4 hours after that.
Much better than my previous non induced birth

wheresthelight · 15/07/2014 08:28

My induction was easy hun!! Pessary worked first time and although I had to have my waters broken I had a really easy time. Pessary was done at 8pm on the Thursday and my gorgeous girl was born at 8.41pm on the Friday. I had an epidural as I am allergic to a lot of the pain meds and severe asthma meant I couldn't have gas and air but I had a natural delivery with no real intervention and no tearing related to the actual birth.

I did have to agree to the head clip for dd as she was a wriggler and they kept losing her on the monitor and as she was crowning the corner of it scratched the inside of my labia which bled a lot and needed stitches but that was just the angle of her head iyswim.

It is scary (I was terrified) but if the Dr's think it's what is best for you and baby then I would go with it. They will keep you both monitored closely and will intervene at the first sign of anything not being right.

I would do it again if I could ever face bring pregnant again (9 months of throwing up 24/7)

goofygoober · 15/07/2014 08:31

Have an appointment for induction this weekend, feel so reassured after reading these stories, thank you! Up to now, everything I'd been told was a horror story. Actually feel so much more relaxed about it now. First VBAC was 30 hrs, ending in forceps.

Good luck OP, and everyone else being induced soon Thanks

Groovee · 15/07/2014 08:32

I was induced at 37 weeks. 1 pessary and 17 hours later my beautiful baby girl was born. It felt hard work and I wasn't allowed the birth I had planned but she was born vaginally and healthy and well.

tiredbutstillsmiling · 15/07/2014 08:37

Agree goofer! Thank you to everyone for sharing, I feel much more reassured now.

I had a sweep with DD and my contractions started within 20 minutes - I was already dilated though at that point. This time will be different as not sure DC2 is ready to move! Hoping the sweep tomorrow will at least make me start to dilate and then I won't need hormone after hormone.

Lovely to hear of all your positive birth experiences - I'm anxious but excited about finally getting to meet this little one!

I was terried of my induction after reading a lot of cautionary tales!) I was 2 weeks overdue so they insisted on it, crushing my hopes of a peaceful (ha) water birth!

I had the pessary and went about 5 hours after that. The Induction itself was fine. The contractions came thick and fast when it started but I had pain relief and managed.

My LO was obviously very comfy as after 9 hours and 2 hours of pushing the Dr decided he was getting a little stressed and so I had a spinal and forceps delivery (and an episiotomy).

It sounds like lots went wrong, which I guess, looking at my birthplan, did! However, I look back on the experience fondly, healed better and quicker than I thought I would afterwards AND most importantly despite nothing going as I thought, it was all ok!

I look at it as though my labour could go any way, regardless of how it starts off (I.e, induction, natural etc)

In my experience, the hospital staff were great, the induction did it's job and I am very happy with the end result (DS!)

Hope you have a great experience. Good luck. X

Cruze · 15/07/2014 08:51

Another positive story, I had the drip for both of mine at 37 weeks. Sweeps & pessaries didn't work.
The drip was straight forward, no dramas, 5 hours first time and 3 hours second time. I wouldn't want to do it any other way.
I was advised by friends who had been through it to get an epidural pretty much as soon as possible which I did & couldn't have asked for better labours.

Good luck, it really isn't anything to be worried about.

CruCru · 15/07/2014 08:58

I was induced for both of mine. The first went on a bit so I had some diamorphine but for the second I didn't need anything. Take lots of books, it might not work right away.

rockdakazbah · 15/07/2014 09:55

I was induced with DS1 and it was a very positive experience. Waters broke on Christmas Day but no contractions. Was induced with drip on Boxing Day and it was such a relaxed atmosphere. There were no am I/aren't I in labour issues and I knew DS would be arriving that day. The ward was really quiet as no one wants to go to hospital over Christmas unless they absolutely have to! I remember about 3 midwives in the room with me at one point as it was so quiet! I had an epidural so didn't feel a thing and DS arrived 4 hours later. DS2 was a different story, v fast natural birth. Hope all goes well OP

ICanSeeTheSun · 15/07/2014 10:01

It was hard getting the contractions going, I had 3 pessary waters broken and on a synton drip. That was on both of mine.

Labour it self wasn't too bad.

DinoSnores · 15/07/2014 11:41

I was induced due to complications at 39 weeks. Nothing happened when my waters were broken, so I was started on the syntocinon drip. That certainly got things going and DD was born 4 hours later with about 5 minutes pushing! Gas and air was great and the epidural was lovely, nice and light so I could still move my legs and feel the contractions. If anything, I recovered far more quickly that time than I did with my home birth with DC1.

pommedeterre · 15/07/2014 11:44

Both my inductions at 38 weeks have been fine, especially with the second who popped out easily 4 hours after the drip had gone in.
