To worry about school report

My ds is end of yr 1 & 6.5 years old. We had school report today and he is on average for everything apart from writing where he is quite below average.

AIBU to worry or am I just being ridiculously neurotic. I feel like I should be celebrating his overall lovely report- teacher says he is lovely to teach and likes learning. He just really hasnt got writing yet & had some ELS help too which made a difference.

I hate the fact that I am even making it an issue but I can't help but worry about it! Its made me feel like we arent doing enough at home.

AIBU?

School reports shouldn't come as a shock.

I really would not make him write at home. Before children want to write, they need to know what they are going to write about. Reading is where it's at at this stage, IMO. Too much pressure on developing brains and hands

Don't worry. My DS was exactly the same. He is one Y4 and his writing level is on par with what is expected in Y6. If he took more care it would be perfect. But he is a typical boy and rushes things. I think he isn't bothered as they do loads on the computers now and don't write an awful lot from what I can gather.

He will be fine. Don't push it. Make it fun. I get DS to keep a scrapbook of what he does in the summer holidays. Keeps his writing up and does little and often over the jols so it isn't such a struggle come the new term.

Get a big bag of sand at the weekend. And let him use his finger, sticks to practise his writing in this. Try to make writing fun what about writing a shopping list for the ingredients for cakes. Then go to the shops and buy them. Let him write things on a steamed up window or mirror.

Try not to worry to much celebrate his other achievements. And find subtle fun ways to get in some writing practise over the holidays.
