Booked excursion - health risk

More of a WWYD....currently on holiday and booked a trip to medieval night for family. Went last night and had to leave after 25 mins as DD suffered asthma attack. It was quite a bad attack but we managed to get it under control after leaving venue. When we were leaving venue, the staff told us it was not suitable for asthmatics and we should have been advised this at time of booking by holiday rep, which we were not. I am absolutely incensed that we were not advised of this as obviously I would not have booked this excursion...on a separate aside, DD was diagnosed with viral asthma, so will now need to take this up with doctors...AIBU to want to take this further?

Did you read the small print?

Crinkle77 · 13/07/2014 22:31

Do you think that the staff said what they did so you would not sue them and have attempted to deflect any blame from them on to the holiday company?

Bunbaker · 13/07/2014 22:36

What would make a venue unsuitable for asthmatics?

Crinkle77 · 13/07/2014 22:38

Saying that I have just done a bit of googling and some of the websites for these companies do say not suitable for asthmatics.

Bun I expect it was dry ice or similar. OP...you need to take this further. I hope DD is ok now.x

I hope your DD is doing ok now?

We had the same when my DD was about 12 - we went to a medieval night in Tenerife and knew when we booked it was a potential problem but didn't imagine it would be SUCH a problem. I don't know if it was the horses themselves ( lots of asthmatics react to horses) or the straw/ hay which was a kicked up causing straw dust in the air.

Either way, DD and I had to wait mainly outside for the evening whilst the rest of the family watched and ate their dinner.

If it's the same kind of place I think you'll have been expected to understand the risk when you booked or to have anticipated it at least if your child was already asthmatic. But if it's a first attack for your DD, I don't think you could have anticipated the risk.

I'm sorry that your DC had a reaction to the venue. I think
If a venue isn't suitablethen they should have it clearly signed out before entering.

Did you inform the holiday rep of the asthma? Just wondering why they would point this specific thing out amongst others? Did you ask if it's suitable as you are more aware of her asthma?
