Neighbour loud garden music

Kerberos · 13/07/2014 18:07

4 hours it's been going on in the garden. I've been fuming for hours.

At what point is it reasonable of me to go and ask him to turn it down?

11pm, IIRC

Alisvolatpropiis · 13/07/2014 18:10

How loud is loud?

You can hear it clearly loud or walls are vibrating loud?

PingPongBat · 13/07/2014 18:11

Now

Alisvolatpropiis · 13/07/2014 18:12

Legally speaking - they've no obligation to turn it down/off until 11pm.

But if they're usually reasonable and have just got carried away then you could ask them now.

Rafanderpants · 13/07/2014 18:12

Now.

Its a sunday and they are disturbing the peace.

Id call noise patrol if you look up on your council website.

MimiSunshine · 13/07/2014 18:15

Go round now, just knock on, smile brightly and say "I'm sorry to bother you, but would you mind turning your music down, it's really loud and a bit annoying?" Keep smiling, people get very confused when what they hear and see are different and it's quite disarming.

Failing that, wait until they do turn it off and then crank yours up and see how long they stand it

Legally there is no limit in particular but there are guidelines dependent on where you are and in a residential area I don't think loud amplified music is ok at any time - low level music could be fine - depends on how far you are from neighbours and the way the noise travels - some surrounded by building might give the effect of amplifying noise whereas trees and bushes can act as a muffler - so he say it is all very dependent on the area and type of noise hence not particular limits - it is what is reasonable given all considerations and what crosses the line in to nuisance - statutory nuisance being where eh will look to prosecute. The guideline after 6pm and 11pm require lower level than what is acceptable in a weekday and what is acceptable on a Sunday.

11pm. I've just come back from a lovely BBQ which had music in there garden. I'm slightly concerned.

Rafanderpants · 13/07/2014 18:26

op, Its a Sunday, theres school tomorrow, 11pm is NOT acceptable for loud music, (I used to have a friend in the council so know this)

plus if neighbour doesn't give a shit about anyone else then its doubtful they'll comply with a polite request.

PLEASE look at your local council laws and go from there.

nippey · 13/07/2014 18:38

I wonder if your neighbour is my neighbour also...been going on since 2pm, so loud it's getting unbearable now. I'm giving it till 8pm and then going round to ask nicely for it to be turned down (hoping it's stopped by then though)

Kerberos · 13/07/2014 19:09

Maybe nippey - I've decided to deploy DD who is overdue a nice long music practise.
