  • after she dismissed it as "slapstick" when I mentioned I'd been catching up on the latest series?

I'm sure that not everyone likes it, but describing it as slapstick is clearly wrong.

Mum claims that she's seen a few episodes, but I think she must have mixed it up with another show.

WIBU to make her watch a few episodes the next time she's over to get this silly slapstick misunderstanding cleared up?

No, the pilot is on at 11.10 tonight on E4.

Also not getting why it's a problem for Penny to be wearing the same top.

Even if she has a high turn over of clothes, surely she could still have some older clothes in the back of a closet? A rediscovered top that hadn't been worn in a year or two could still look pretty new...

Angry citrus

PipkinsPal · 11/07/2014 23:22

Firstly ask her if she would like a hot beverage. Make her watch it and then say "FYI it's not slapstick is it mother?"

ShadowFall · 11/07/2014 23:23

expat - if my mum had said she didn't like it because it's stupid, I wouldn't agree but it'd still be a valid opinion. Assuming that the opinion is based on having seen at least one episode, of course.

Dismissing it.on the grounds that it's slapstick is a bit like me saying I hate Eastenders because I don't like sitcoms. It's just not a sensible reason .

DD introduced me to it, and I'm hooked. DH doesn't get it though. May have to LTB?

Please don't force it on your mum though. With any luck, she will come round to liking it all by herself while waiting for the slapstick bits.

BackforGood · 11/07/2014 23:26

Er - might she just have accidentally used the wrong word ? Easily done when you get to my age.

Walkacrossthesand · 11/07/2014 23:27

Why isn't the scheduled episode on?? There's some US drama guff on instead!!

ShadowFall · 11/07/2014 23:32

Some US drama guff with a very implausible set-up, if you're talking about The 100.

I'm having difficulty suspending disbelief with that one.

Not everyone is in the UK citrus, and some people record to watch later. People who spoil it for others are so bloody selfish.

STOPwiththehahaheheloling · 12/07/2014 00:22

If the episode with penny wearing same top as pilot is the one I'm thinking if then it was intentional that she was wearing the same top. Is it the episode where the wrong spock cardboard cut out arrives and leonard daydreams about asking penny out again and then does it? That scene (sheldon and leonard arriving in the landing and noticing penny -who was oblivious to their presence- in her appartment) was replicating the initial sighting of her in the same way i.e; through her open door from the landing.

Birdsgottafly · 12/07/2014 00:38

No, I wish it was.

I don't like that Sheldon made it clear that "Soft Kitty" was an illness song and not a stress reliever, then it was later changed.

Their audience are the type to take note and it spoils it, especially when it's Sheldon that makes a mistake.

As he did about Dr Who.

I watch "the making of" and they need "experts" in every subject.

But it's a brilliant show.

STOPwiththehahaheheloling · 12/07/2014 00:40

Which episode was it?

Thumbwitch · 12/07/2014 00:45

I love TBBT. I don't notice tiny continuity details like clothes. And I don't know enough about Dr Who to know if they make any mistakes - I just enjoy it for the interaction and random bits of science.

DH doesn't "get" it.

steff13 · 12/07/2014 00:47

That episode aired months ago in the US. It's been all over the internet that they were engaged. How do you manage to remain unspoiled all that time?

squoosh · 12/07/2014 00:48

The most recent series has been a bit below par.

STOPwiththehahaheheloling · 12/07/2014 00:51

I agree squoosh.

STOPwiththehahaheheloling · 12/07/2014 00:53

Not helped by the multiple breaks in the series so we are waiting months between episodes and forget what happened last.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 12/07/2014 01:18

You really need to know the characters and their relationships to get the most from this show, which takes a little investment but pays dividends. It would be mildly funny if I hadn't seen it before but the characterizations make it. It's also quite dry and witty and I use it as a prime example to show the notion that Americans can't 'do' dry humour/sarcasm is a load of bull.
