About DD's school report..?

My DD is almost 4 and at preschool. She is very bright but not very physically able as she has severe hypermobility. She's also hypersensitive to different textures and would have a full on screaming fit and start gagging if I put her hand in shaving foam / a bowl of dry rice etc...

So.. I got her school report today. And I'm thinking that maybe it's just a generic report and not specific to my DD at all.

"Georgie's DD loves messy play, and particularly likes playing outside in the sandpit."

"Georgie's DD enjoys being outdoors, climbing and jumping...." (She cannot do either of these things.)

"Georgie's DD recognises some shapes, can write a couple of letters from her name and can count to ten!"

My DD has spent pretty much her whole life so far sitting still, so to ease her frustration we used to read to her and teach her letters and numbers... She can write her whole name (and has been able to for ages, so it's very legible), I think she would only struggle with extremely obscure shapes, and can count to 40 at least.

I appreciate that they must be busy, but this report seems to be completely the opposite of my child.... Do you think they got confused? Confused

I would definetly want to speak to someone at her Nursery. She either is cabable of a lot more at Nursery than you envisage (clutching at straws here) or theyve written out non personal generic comments.

Either they've got your dd's report mixed up with another child's or they really don't know her at all.

The writing, shapes and counting could be excused if she doesn't show what she can do when she is at preschool but there's no way the rest could be justified.

I would speak to the staff, especially if this report is going to be added to her records and forwarded to a Reception teacher.

She definitely can't jump or climb, not even close. We're working on it at Physio...

I would talk to them, but often children are very different when they are in a pre-school setting that at home. DS is the same age and has been happily writing at home for ages but has only just started doing it at pre-school.

Sounds like they have put wrong name on it or got your daughter mixed uo with someone else. Definitely speak to someone

Is there another child in the class with the same name as your DD? Just wondering if they mixed them up. This did once happen to my DN at primary; his parents only knew it was the wrong report when it referred to his shining ability on the piano, which DN didn't play!

curiousgeorgie · 11/07/2014 14:41

She's the only one of her name in morning nursery but I'm not sure about afternoon.

Totally unacceptable, I would definitely speak to someone ASAP, being busy is no excuse.

I agree that many children perform differently at school. My DS could speak properly at home but didn't really speak much at preschool, 6 months later they wrote in his report that he was starting to speak in sentences when he had been doing that a year at home, they said this is quite common, but if she clearly cannot jump or climb then it is ridiculous to write that.
