Rainbow Loom 'made popular by Duchess of Cambridge'

There have been a few articles in newspapers in the last few weeks regarding the current rainbow loom trend and several papers seem to imply that it's popularity has soared as a result of the Duchess of Cambridge who was seen wearing one given to her by a child. Several other celebrities have been sporting loom band brackets too apparently.

My children have only a vague idea who the Duchess of Cambridge is and she certainly isn't responsible for their obsession with this. Why do the media need to make out that celebrities are responsible for everything? Can't we just let kids enjoy a simple craft/ toy these days just because it's fun rather than it being a celeb led trend or AIBU?

Thanks, Stinkle, I am impressed by your perseverence. DGD coming here this evening, will show her the video. She has done quite a few but not as fancy as that.

I had to pretty much beg DSD to show me how to do it. DP keeps asking her to take up crochet instead and make something useful!

Her reply is usually 'noooo daaaaaaad I'm not 1000 years old!' And 'no Spandex you are waaaaay too old for loom bandzzz'

I think it's a great craze. I loved things like that when I was at school. I'm glad they are making crossbows and slingshots and things. It shows creativity that I thought had died out!

I think she made a point that adults with loom bands are NOT exactly immature. I don't think she ever goes anywhere without an army of stylists.

I think Kate went to a charity event at a school or something and was given one by a child as a present. Out of politeness she then wore it for the rest of the engagement. So YADNBU - I doubt she had ever worn one before and hasn't since.
