Surely it's just 'aww', where does the N come from???!

I've never heard anyone write it like this until recently and now everyone seems to be doing it!

Why???

Naw means 'no' where I come from.

Glastogirl · 10/07/2014 18:32

It's definitely meant as 'aww' in these circumstances!

another one who'd say it was no.

n'aw? instead of aww? don't get it, sorry.

notnowbernard · 10/07/2014 18:45

I would say abbreviation of "and all"

iklboo · 10/07/2014 18:57

I'd have though it meant no as well. I've heard people say na-ahh (best I can write it how it sounds) & nah for no. And naw as well.

UnderEstherMate · 10/07/2014 19:02

I have seen it used as 'aww'. It's a bit n'irritatiting, but nothing I'd get my knickers in a twist about.

Salmotrutta · 10/07/2014 19:04

Would this be a Facebook-type thing?

I've never seen it but I expect it would mildly irritate me if I did.

UnderEstherMate · 10/07/2014 19:23

It is a Facebook type thing Salmotrutta

Likeaninjanow · 10/07/2014 19:29

In scotland it's 'naw' and means 'no'. As in 'aw naw' - oh no.

lurkerspeaks · 10/07/2014 20:11

Or in Scotland you might say an' aw.

Meaning and all or everything.

Is it this use that is getting abbreviated? To n'aw

HappyGirlNow · 10/07/2014 20:19

An' aw in Scotland means 'as well as' eg 'get some bread and you better get buy some butter an' aw'

Grin

Ie dialect!

N'awww sound a tittish, twee social media invention...

Salmotrutta · 10/07/2014 20:34

But I must protest!

In Scots "all" becomes a' and "and" is 'N so therefore "And all" for as well should really be written as :-

'N a'

See?

Salmotrutta · 10/07/2014 20:36

P.s. - I'm running away now Grin

Balaboosta · 11/07/2014 00:04

Homer Simpson goes "d'oh". I don't know why that is either.
