Mine is not terribly exciting but it seems only polite to make a contribution Grin

I live a few doors down from the house where I was born, very close to the village church. I grew up listening to the sound of the bells. When I moved back I was pleased to hear their familiar chimes again, until I discovered that the church had long been derelict and the clock stopped years ago.

Still, I continued to hear the bells nearly every night, until the church was finally demolished last year.

there is probably a completely rational explanation for what I was actually hearing but tonight I am living in the land of woo and whimsy

Anymore for anymore?

I do promise this is not one of those films where anyone wearing a sheet runs through or a scary face jumps out at you. But it is a hotel CCTV camera in the USA, reports were heard of someone screaming and they sent security to investigate watch carefully!

SunkenDream · 12/07/2014 16:35

newname that reminded me of the Hampton Court cctv footage that appeared on the BBC website a few years back. It's the first time I've ever seen 'ghost footage' in the mainstream media.

I'm pretty skeptical to be honest. It looks like an Elizabethan figure, but why would it be interacting with what looks like a modern fire door?

There's a bit more info (and another ghost photo from Hampton Court) here: hauntedearthghostvideos.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/two-full-view-apparitions-caught-on.html

newnameforanewstart I didn't see anything on that clip of the hotel, what am I missing?

VanessaShanesa · 12/07/2014 17:06

The hotel CCTV footage screams fake to me.

newnameforanewstart · 12/07/2014 18:45

Melliefitz look for a sort of heat haze it start just after the guy opens the door you hear a sort of a boom sound and then see it it moves down the corridor away from your view its at 1:30

Well all the information on it seems to suggest it is a NOT a fake, but then I don´t know for sure, same as anything you see on tv!

Muddledandunsure · 12/07/2014 21:01

Years ago I lived in a top floor flat in a converted house. The living room wasn't overlooked by anything other than cows so I didn't always close the curtains when it got dark.

I was sat at the dining table in front of the window doing some ou work. All of a sudden I saw this strange white light in the window in front of me, it sort of hovered around a bit then stayed level with me. I opened the window to see what it was but there was nothing outside. I sat back down again and could see it again. It stayed for a while and then disappeared. I didn't think much of it until it happened again the next couple of nights.

I was telling my then bf about it a couple of years later and he said you know why you couldn't see it outside, it was because it was behind you.

That freaked me right out even though I have no idea what it was.

Spanglecrab · 12/07/2014 21:16

My one and only spookie experience came while working in an elderly ladies flat. I saw a black and white photo of a boy aged around ten on the wall. Almost straight away I felt a sadness that surpasses anything I have felt before or since. This includes the grief caused by losing close family members. I had tears pouring down my face.

I managed to compose myself and leave the flat - I'm a 6ft 5 bloke and not prone to this sort of thing. I've since seen this boy in my dreams at least a dozen times.

I've never told anyone in real.life about this.

SunkenDream · 12/07/2014 21:24

Sorry to post another video. DS has only just gone to sleep, and I'm too much wimp to write up my own experiences after dark I should really have more sense than to be on this thread - but I did want to share this:

It's a documentary I remember seeing on TV several years ago about hauntings on the London Underground. It really unsettled me at the time as I was living in London and frequently caught the tube alone at night, when it was not so well populated. According to the documentary, it is is one of the most haunted places in the world.

The one about the figure sitting next to you on the Bakerloo Line (glimpsed as a reflection in the window opposite your seat) properly freaked me out. That was my line!

It's really well done and quite informative as well as spooky. Not at all like the 'Most Haunted' style documentaries that seem to get shown ad nauseum these days.

Needaholiday, I can't see anything on that film apart from flickering lights.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 12/07/2014 21:47

It took 3 goes before I spotted the figure at the end of the bar. Spooky

ln1981 · 12/07/2014 21:47

Have spent the last few nights freaking myself out with this thread and also the nursing site link. Thought I might add my own experience, though probably not as scary as some I have read.
DH's grandfather died 7 years ago, at the time ds2 was only a newborn, ds1 was 3 and dd was 2. On the evening of the day that he died, dh and I were downstairs when we heard the floorboards moving above us, got up to check that ds1 wasnt up (he was the only one not in a cot at the time) -nope, fast asleep in bed.
This continued for several months, though not every night but definately more often if any of the children were ill. Both dh and I came to the conclusion that grandad was just "checking his bairns".
My own grandfather died in february. A few days afterwards we were in our own house talking about the approaching funeral and a coin hit me on the arm. It had been balanced on a bottle by ds2 earlier in the day and dh reckons that the vibrations throughout the day just dislodged it and it bounced up and hit my arm but I swear it hit me with alot more force than just a bouncing coin!
I have seen white feathers alot since he passed so I know hes checking on us. We live in a bungalow now so no creaking floorboards above our heads to let us know hes here!

Anotheronebitthedust · 12/07/2014 22:47

does anyone remember longtalljosies one on a previous thread, about a girl who was older than her and then younger? That's the one I always remember, so freaky!

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 12/07/2014 23:08

I'm still watching documentary clips on YouTube of the haunted underground. It's fascinating.

Smitten1981 · 12/07/2014 23:10

My mum worked in a nursing home and said that she and her colleagues had quite a few spooky goings on there.

The best ghost story I have heard is from DH's family:

They live in a country house that used to belong to the farm that's next door. It was totally derelict when they bought it and they restored it. DH's mum said that doors used to shut themselves a lot and a few odd things happened, but they had a family joke that it was just the ghost that they named Charlie. So if anything odd happened they'd say: 'oh, it's just Charlie messing about again.'
It was a running joke for a few years, anyway one weekend DH's dad was talking about when they moved in and how he found a rope hanging from a beam in the attic that he'd left up there. That afternoon an elderly couple knocked at their door and said that one of them used to live in the house when they were very young and heard they'd refurbished it and they wanted to see what had been done.
They stayed for a cup of tea and the husband was telling them about when he used to live in the house and had DH's parents been bothered by the ghost yet? DH's mum said they'd had a few weird things happen in the time they'd lived there. The man then told my in-laws that his mother had told him when he was older and had moved out that before they lived there it was owned by a pig farmer called Charlie who had been driven nuts by the pigs squealing and had hung himself in the attic.
The bloody rope is still there as I demanded to be shown it. Spooky or what?

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 12/07/2014 23:19

Weird they named it Charlie without knowing it was his name Shock

Why haven't they taken the rope down?

Smitten1981 · 12/07/2014 23:31

He said he felt weird about it and didn't want to touch it.
My mother in law's best friend won't set foot anywhere apart from the living room as she's terrified. I won't stay there overnight anymore either.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 12/07/2014 23:44

I'd totally be getting someone in to take the rope down who didn't believe in such things.

And get a vicar in to bless the place. As I'd figure it couldn't hurt

BrewsterBabies · 13/07/2014 00:13

One thing that really sticks in my mind when i was a teenager around 15 I was going to stay over my friends house after a party .
I got myself ready and was sitting on her bed out of the corner of my eye I saw half a dark figure of a man looking in at me round the door frame on the landing when i turned to look there was no one there .
When we got back from the party I had to sleep on the floor next to her bed with my head by the door so i made sure it was shut properly before going to sleepafter seeing that earlier .
I woke up in the night to find the door wide open . my head was right next to it i would of heard someone opening it or if my friend had got out of bed and climbed over me that proper freaked me out she then went on to tell me that a few years before they moved in the man who lived there before her had died in the house and was always about on the landing looking in on them

Also i recently moved to a new house that had once owned by a lovely lady that never managed to have any children and suffered several miscarriges and has died of cancer .My 3yr old dd has woken in the night crying went in to see her and found her pointing at the corner of the room saying lady :O .

Galaxymum · 13/07/2014 02:13

I love a spooky ghost thread as I feel justified in recalling my experiences and mum's experiences at a time so many believe just dismiss things.

DM worked as a nightnurse at old hospital that had been a private asylum - the patients were still residents when she was there. Anyway, she kept hearing someone pacing/skipping in a circle above her. She asked the night caretaker to check and each time he said yes, the doors were locked - the door leading to the attic was definitely locked. But it kept happening. Also she could hear someone coming from the attic above, hear the door shut and someone come halfway downstairs then go up. When she got really scared one night, and she and the caretaker could hear this skipping in a circle, she got cover and they went up to investigate.

There, in the middle of the attic was a maypole.

Permanentpanicmode · 13/07/2014 08:19

My father tells two stories which he swears are true...I've never seen them as an urban myth so have always given him the benefit of the doubt!

When he was a young naval pilot, living in Cornwall (near Culdrose), they used to do a lot of night flying exercises and would drive home in the early hours. His colleague was driving home at about 2am one night and it was pouring with rain. In his headlights he saw a girl without a coat walking home and offered her a lift. She refused and said she was fine. He insisted that he should give her a lift because it was so late and wet and she didn't have a coat. She insisted she was fine, but asked him to give her parents a message to the effect that she was well and happy as they lived near to where he was going. He insisted that she took his coat if she wouldn't take the lift and promised to give them the message the next day. When he called on the parents the next day, they very sadly said he must be mistaken and took him to the back garden, where there was a gravestone with the girl's name on it. And his coat lying neatly on the top of it.

The other story he told me was that he had a distant cousin whose mother was a bit of a harridan. When she died, she'd stipulated in her will that her headstone had to be a particular sort of stone, which was extremely expensive. The siblings decided that it was too much and chose a cheaper alternative. From that moment, whenever they went out walking they were pelted with stone chips....which happened to be exactly the sort of stone that they should have used in the first place. As soon as they replaced the headstone, it stopped.

sashh · 13/07/2014 08:40

OK is this spooky or not.

This morning I got up and went to the bathroom, the door to the bathroom cabinet is open and my contact lenses are on the floor.

Wtf?

I moved here as a new build. The cat was shut in my bedroom all night (had the AC on and it doesn't work with the door open).

What happened?

Nothing else has been moved and my bedroom is next to the bathroom, I sleep with my head against the wall between my bedroom and the bathroom with the cupboard on the other side of that wall.

Any ideas? Spooky or otherwise?

echt · 13/07/2014 08:51

Looking at the hotel ghostly images, their shape is very like the man who went into the room to investigate; same bulk, height and gait.

MrsCosmopilite · 13/07/2014 11:01

The hotel one looks strange. As in, the 'shape' is very crisp and defined. There are several debunking theories about this. I think the audible exchange indicates a hoax. (Sorry!)

The Hampton Court one I think has been disproven too. I know that staff dress in period costume so it's not unreasonable for someone in costume to have shut doors/had problems with them.

Going to review the pub one and the underground one again.
