To hope dealers will stop selling Rolf Harris's artwork?

Ebay is awash with listings for Rolf Harris's artwork, and there is no shortage of people wanting to bid for it. None of it is going cheap, and it is like nothing happened. Ebay's stance is 'because he isn't a violent felon, the listings are within their policies. AIBU to think everything to do with his work should be buried and forgotten?

If JS had found the cure for cancer, would you use that treatment windchime, or would you die protecting your 'moral outrage'?

If they were rated as good by me, Saville's paintings would still be hanging on my walls, because:

a, I liked them

b, More importantly, having his paintings on my walls would make absolutely no difference as regards the crimes he committed.

That's the bottom line: the art is separate from the artist.

In any case, it would be impractical to purge every bit of art carried out by bad people. Wonder how many here who say they'd get rid of Harris's stuff have Rolling Stones records on which Bill Wyman (who had sex with a 13-year-old girl) plays? Plenty I'd imagine.

I am one of the girls groomed by William Mayne in the 1970s and am now a mum myself. He used the books to groom me in two ways. (1) they built his fame and allowed him access to me - I was introduced to him in person at a Puffin/Penguin book party. (2) go back and have a careful read of those books. Like you I loved them and was attracted to William Mayne BUT there are some horrible subliminal messages in them. In one book he talks about naked sisters lying together, warm skin on cold skin. As a mum I now hear warning bells going off. But when I Read it all those years ago I simply assumed.....it was acceptable to be naked next to another girl. Bear in mind this pedophile asked me and a friend to go and stay at his house together in Thornton Rust. He has an image in one book of a stranger drying children out of the bath. Alarm bells!!!!!!! Many of William Mayne's books show children in opposition to their parents, not using their mums as their primary confidant. They portray children who keep secrets from their parents - a terrible technique of pedophiles such as William Mayne. I want my children to see me as someone who is on their side, their primary advocate in whom they can confide and trust. Re-read those books Hakluyt and let me know if you see any aspects which, with the benefit of hindsight, are actually rathe creepy grooming material. old Harris's Jake the Peg with a man in a rain mac and a concealed "third limb" is somehow....ugh.... The very existence of many of his egocentric paintings (often of himself as a jolly cartoon kangaroo) were a way of grooming children and drawing them to him. I agree bad people can do good things.....but I don't want my children to fall in love with his innocent landscapes and hence look up to Rolf Harris as a role model. nor do I want Rolf Harris profiting from me and my children if I condone his artwork. I think we would all have a very different opinion of Hitler's art if he was alive or his immediate family or friends were profiting from his art. like Rolf he had some small share of aptitude but I think we can agree that anyone buying a Hitler painting does so specifically because of his notoriety rather than his artistic talent. I hate to think that one day there might be a market for Rolf Harris where people bought his paintings specifically because he was a pedophile. Almost as dangerous as the works of Graham Overton (pedophile who painted naked prepubescent girls)
