To start ironing?

I've never ironed... I do know how to do it and I have on the odd occasion ironed a school or work uniform or my partners shirts... But it's kind of been a thing of mine that life is too short to spend ironing Shock

But... I brought a bottle of that posh stuff called ironing water (wtf) last week and I'm having these odd desires to get ironing all the families clothes... Could someone either talk sense into me ???

I didn't iron and then I started doing it and hated it so now I pay a lovely lady to do it who brings it back in age appropriate piles of loveliness.

Sod the water and send it away!

I did the same. Bought an iron and a board for dds uniform. Ironed it once before realising the material meant it looked ironed if I hung it dry correctly. It hasn't been used since oops!

This is a good thing, ironing is marvellous!

Redorwhitejusthaveboth · 05/07/2014 21:57

But what if I like it???? Shock

I have a lovely big pile of laundry waiting to be ironed if you want to practice on something. I suggest starting with DH shirts:)

Annunziata do tell me more... Do you have your ironing board up all the time? What are the logistics? Do you iron everything? I have 4 kids... How much time is this going to take up a week?

I quite like it. Tragically, I view it as quality alone time. I listen to a podcast or the radio or something - it's all very calm and soothing.

I stand and watch a film if I want yo iron instead of sitting on the sofa, so I stillwatch the film but iron at the same time

I tend to go through phases of ironing everything and putting it all away all perfect and lovely or nit doing any and just ironing things as I need them.

I do enjoy doing it though, I find it quite therapeutic. My MIL thinks I am insane to say I enjoy it though as do most other people, they give me the Hmm look

Annunziata · 05/07/2014 22:11

I iron everything yes, clothes, pants, vests, sheets, tea towels, towels... everything :) and I have 7, so no excuses Wink

It's just so relaxing. I put the baby in the playpen or while she is napping I do it, for about an hour a day, usually in the morning, sometimes about 6pm.

Redorwhitejusthaveboth · 05/07/2014 22:21

7!!!! And you iron underpants!!! I feel like an utter slattern now... Right... I'm going to find a way to do this an enjoy it

Just why? Why on earth would any person elect to spend their time doing this? Why? (Howls in disbelief).

Redorwhitejusthaveboth · 05/07/2014 22:27

Macbeth this was my point of view for years... What has happened to me????

Ugh, no ironing, ever. DP irons, I've tried stopping him but he won't. He waits until stuff is overflowing on an armchair before doing any and complains about how much there is too. I've gotten sick of telling g him that if he just folded and put away straight off the line/tumble dryer he would need to iron, but noooooooo.

Now I just pick all of my stuff and his DD things out the piles and leave him to whine about his own things.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 05/07/2014 22:31

Why would you iron towels? Doesn't that flatten the nap and make them less absorbent?
