. . to put my in-laws in separate beds?

Hello,

My brothers husband and his wife are coming to stay for one night in August. We don't have a guest bedroom and they will have to sleep in our living room.

At the moment all we have is a rubbish air bed. I'd like to replace this with a proper folding out bed so that they, and other future visitors, can have a comfortable nights sleep.

The problem I have is our house is small, with little storage. If I buy a double size folding bed we might not even be able to get it up the stairs and even if we could I don't know where we'd keep it.

However if I buy two single beds we should be able to move them fairly easily and possibly even store them out of the way in the attic.

They are nice people and they'd never say anything but I wonder if it might look a bit 'odd' if I set up two single beds. Almost as if I'm saying 'don't do the deed in our house'.

For the record I don't care what they do as long as they clean up after themselves!

What do you think?

Our spare bed (in playroom) is a single bed with another single bed stored underneath. The second bed has fold-down legs, so when its pulled out it comes up to the same height as the top bed. They can then be pushed together or used separately. 99% of the time the top bed is covered with cushions and doubles as a sofa.

For us, it's the most flexible option. Tbh, having two single beds is always a better bet than a double bed for a spare room or guests, as its easier then to accomodate non- couples iyswim. Our dc are now teens, and we always seem to have various additional teebs sleeping over. 2 beds better than a double for this!

I agree with ruddy duck you need one of these

I also have one in my spare room that doubles up as a couh (with a throw and many scatter cushions!) it really was money well spent!

We have a double airbed that is the same height and width of an ordinary bed. You plug it in to the mains to inflate and deflate and it is brilliant it packs away into a bag for easy storage.

I thought this was going to be a superb revenge thread from someone with PILs who made them and their dp sleep in separate rooms even though they were both 43/married/had 6 kids etc. Grin
Same here Grin I was giggling to myself at the idea of doing the same to my PILs.

pourquoi So glad that it wasn't just me who opened the thread expecting that! Grin

OP, it's fine, I'm sure they can manage for one night! You could always push them together if they're the same height? (the beds, not your in laws Wink)

If it's an air bed or a camp bed, I'd far rather sleep on a single. We have a super king so if we're on a smaller less comfortable mattress then DH and I tend to wake each other up. Two singles would be better for both of us.

Oh and I'm not overly keen about sleeping in other peoples beds even though it's very kind if they offer them. I'd rather sleep in the guest bed, or mattress or whatever - if feels a bit weird and too personal to sleep in my host's bedroom.
