To be upset about new kitchen?

I've had a brand new (but done fairly cheaply) kitchen fitted. It looks pretty good and i love the kitchen itself except that the wall and floor tiles I chose look horrible and don't match the cupboards.

I thought that they would but it was all rushed and done on a tight budget and I got it wrong. Worst of it is I changed my mind at the last minute and my original choice would have been better. Now I'm kicking myself.

I'm really fed up about it, even ds who's 6 said that he doesn't like the 'floor and walls' but likes the cupboards.

There's no way we're going to afford to get these changed for a long time and I'm really sulking.

It's such a first world problem, and I think I'm probably being very unreasonable and quite bratty but I can't help feeling shitty about it.

Please be nice.

I have pm you. Please check it. I'm happy to send pics of my own kitchen. Everyone compliments it. Honestly, tell the chintz crowd to do one. Once the upgrade their beige velour sofas and overload of children in cute poses ornaments then you will take their opinion seriously Grin

doorbell - could you post a pic of your kitchen. I'm very interested in the vinyl idea.

I've painted my kitchen tiles white,(they were speckled beige before) they honestly look fine, you'd have to really look closely to see they were painted. Two coats about 4 years ago, a LOT of tiles. Easy to clean just the same as normal.

Could you get a large sisal mat that covers most of the floor tiles? Like this:

Also, I agree with the person who said some colourful gadgets will make a big difference... I bet it's not half as clashy as you think.
In the end, accept it's a kitchen and not the most important thing! :)

I have a kind of PTSD wen it comes to choosing paint. No joke. My first choice was a lovely pale lavender, and a pale green (ivy I think it was called) for the entry way. Having never thought about the affect of whether its satin, flat, matte, gloss, or semi-gloss I just said "whatever is normal" and... well... lets just says the laughter and scoffing of "omg it looks like an easter egg exploded in here", did nothing to build my confidence to try again :S Really, it's not that bad now I'm used to it, and I WILL repaint it one day - but it's bloody staying out of principle as well!

It's been almost 4 years since I was brave enough to try something other than greys. I've been staring at that bloody ugly bedroom wall (sans the wallpaper border that was first to go - shudder) and the paint colour book and so worried.

Today though, today I am triumphant! I wasn't sure (but didn't hate it) when I painted the test patch, still wasn't sure once I used photoshop to extrapolate the design and colour. Wasn't sure while it was going up... but I am so so so so pleased I went with it now. It looks amazing (in my humble opinion) and moving the bed back I'm even more pleased how nice it looks.

Moral of the story - it isn't done, until it's done. Remember, it's rare that something looks good halfway through the process (thing cooking, think hair cut, think hair COLOUR!). Finish it and then take a few days to decide if you really hate it. If you do, take a pic and post it on MN (probably not in AIBU though - scary place) and maybe all it will need is a few accessories.

I can PM you my brave choice during the process, and now, if you like... scary times but worth it!

I had white tile paint too and it looked great.

I'm sorry but the person who commented is fecking rude.

My mil has a tendency to say 'why did you do that?' about anything she would personally but have chosen. These days I just smile and say 'why not?'

Its the old treating adult children like erm children trap.

I'm sure it looks fine just paint the other bits a nice light colour and get light accessorises.

I am good at choosing interiors Wink
