Am I being a total brat or is my boss taking the piss out of her staff ?
We process huge amounts of paper due to audit trails in Finance etc but are not allowed to file it in work time. We are expected to come in early or work late to get it done- I am hourly paid and despite starting an hour early every single day never get paid for this. Today I went in and started filing to be told she would prefer me to not file and do month end, still 55mins before I start work and bearing in mind I am not allowed to file in work time.
Later in the day she then proceeded to put her massive pile of filing in my trays for me to do!

YANBU. She is totally taking the piss.

If it's part of the job, you do it in paid time. If it's not, you dont do it. What would happen if, come audit time, all she had was a massive stack of unorganised papers to give the auditors? She'd be in the shit. So its a job that needs to be done and she has to pay someone to do it! Anything else is bollocking.

I don't usually allow myself to be too affected by things I read on mumsnet - don't give more emotionally than you can afford and all that. But this has made me really, really angry on your behalf!

I hope someone with real employment law knowledge can come along with some advice but I think she might be dodgy ground over your sick day as well. Would you not at least be entitled to statutory sick pay for that day? Has she effectively not paid you at all now for your sick day?
