This is fast becoming my pet hate. i asked in Joules yesterday why and she said its because they like to see where their customers are coming from? Why do they need my name though?. Ive said no in White company and the lady got really huffy.

Do any of you guys say no?

I always refuse to give my information unless I'm buying an expensive item and it is needed to go on the warranty card.

CrapBag · 02/07/2014 10:29

I have never been asked my name, only postcode which pisses me off enough.

Making a mental note to avoid all of these shops, not that we have most of them here anyway.

smiles Grin. I'd love to do that but wouldn't have the nerve.

Ask them for a copy of their data protection policy. If they produce anything - read it very, very slowly.
I went to open a bank account for my DS. I sat and read that documentation very slowly. You could tell the sales advisor wanted to move on to other things but stuff them. If they create massively long terms and conditions they should expect people to read them.

I might set up a new email address "[email protected]"

Do you think they would get the hint?

youbuggerz · 04/07/2014 09:43

Joules have completely ignored my tweet!

Mothercare. They ask if I have an e-mail address and I say NO in a firm tone and looking at them in the eye. They know I'm lying because I don't want to give it to them. But they can't say anything! Stops them in their tracks.

MagicCarpet · 04/07/2014 10:10

I'm always being asked for my address! It's massively irritating.
If I say 'No ta, I don't want to get junk mail', they say they won't send any. So I ask why they need it, and they can never actually give an answer. It pisses me off hugely - I don't want to have an argument every time I buy a bit of makeup, or clothing for the kids. Nor do I want to parrot my name and address every two minutes.
I don't need my makeup preferences logging, I know what colour my face is… I know what sizes my kids are, thanks…
They can have a vague estimate as to where I've travelled from if they so desire, but that's it. I used to just give in and give details, but don't anymore. The amount of junk mail I get is wasteful and pointless.

There is a lap dancing place in the nearest town to me. I googled the postcode. They must be getting a steady flow of clothing catalogues.
