to think £17.00 an hour (net) is too much for a nanny share salary

I have an amazing nanny that has offered to do a share with another family. There would only be two children between the ages of 3 and 5. Am I wrong in thinking this salary is a bit much? Especially when you add taxes and mileage on top? What is a standard salary for a shared nanny? This person really is wonderful and I want to be generous, but fair as well.

It is less, but only £1.50 (net).

She is is amazing, great with the kids, you fully trust her then it's worth it,children are precious.

Do you already employ this nanny? If so, then why would you want to share them with someone else, especially if the saving to you is not very much?

If you are going to end and agreement and start a new one, then good time to agree a Gross salary, so you know how much it will cost you.

Op, sounds like you live nearish me, and this is a very high salary for a nanny share, unless the circumstances are as I questioned in my first post. I wouldn't be happy paying this for a share. You compromise on a fair few things for a share to work well, and for me, this would be too much.

Bomber, Xenia is still here, just under a different name. Check out the private primary school thread from yesterday and today.

That sounds really high to me! I am in London and I employ a nanny, paying much less...

The going rate for a nanny, not a nanny share, here in Australia is about that. The equivalent of $25-30 an hour. So $15 an hour for each child is just over £8 an hour each. Is that really too much? I would have thought nannies in Central London are on at least £10-12 an hour for one family. Wouldn't childminders also charge about £8 an hour? If your nanny is as amazing as you say and has good qualifications, I don't think what she is asking is at all unreasonable.

The question isn't really whetehr this is an unreasonable salary based on a comparison with other jobs, other countries etc. It is whether it is more than the market rate in her area, and if it is, how much more. And whether that is reasonable, given the nanny's experience, qualifications etc.
