to refuse to refund this ebay buyer unless they return the item?

Sold some shoes BNIB on ebay. Buyer now says they have been advised by Schuh that they are fake and demanding a refund without return. Says ebay have told them not to return as I could sell on!

Can't believe Schuh even offer this service, and buyer has no written proof they wee told the shoes are fake. Shoes came from a relative so no idea where they actually were bought. But buyer demanding full refund without returning them. On hold to ebay now but suspect MN will be faster!

Don't just tell the scammer buyer to return before she gets her refund. Tell her that you'll refund when you've received the shoes and checked your security markings. That should make her think twice about attempting to swap your shoes with a fake or damaged pair.

She might even just disappear into the ether upon reading that you've security marked the shoes. I had someone try a similar claim with me - a warning that I'd security marked the item later and she was never heard from again!

SharkBearGator · 30/06/2014 19:24

I bet they tried to return them with out receipt under schuh 365 day return policy and couldn't.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 30/06/2014 19:25

I'm nosey, what shoes were they? They can't be serious designer if schuh sell them?

Definitely don't do anything without official contact from eBay. Good luck.

MissMilbanke · 30/06/2014 19:26

Tbh I wouldn't antagonise your buyer too much - despite being a liar they do unfortunately hold all the cards on ebay.

A dignified silence would be my approach.

And repeat ' return for a full refund '

I think they will go away ...

WanderingAway · 30/06/2014 19:27

My dsis bought a phone from ebay. It was fake. She got a full refund and kept the phone. So it can happen.

nononodontpointthatatme · 30/06/2014 19:30

Not saying what as I don't want to be found on Ebay! They were middle range trainers though. Nothing fancy or particularly expensive!

I'm writing a polite reply explaining the outcome of my conversations with Ebay and Schuh and asking for a return by tracked delivery service.

I even upgraded to special delivery for the bastards FOR NO EXTRA COST TO THEM as they wanted them in a hurry Angry

hoobypickypicky · 30/06/2014 19:35

Wandering, yes it can happen but only at Ebay's discretion and in accordance with their rules after a case has been opened and Ebay have found in the buyer's favour. The buyer can't suddenly decide of her own volition that the items are/might be fake and demand a refund while retaining the goods.

nononodontpointthatatme · 30/06/2014 19:38

Oh and no I can't ask relative, she has buggered off to the other side of the world (quite literally) to do voluntary work! I will email her but the chances of her a) getting the email and deeming it important enough to reply to this side of Christmas and b) remembering at all, are slim Grin

I now have it im writing from Schuh that they do not offer confirmation of authenticity. Lying arsehole!

You could have some fun with this Smile

nononodontpointthatatme · 30/06/2014 21:10

Waiting to see if they return, or do as they threatened and open a case.

They really wanted them in a hurry hence me upgrading the postage at my own cost, cos I am a nice Ebayer who always does my best to make buyers happy!

I have a suspicion they wanted them for an occasion that has wrecked them (Glastonbury maybe?) and now want to chuck them and get a refund.

Unless I am wrong, this buyer can leave you negative feedback which is very unfair.

nononodontpointthatatme · 30/06/2014 21:18

Yep they probably will but hey ho. They can eff off if they think they are getting a full refund for no reason at all though!

OP posts:
SolidGoldBrass · 30/06/2014 21:20

I think you can get Ebay to delete negative feedback if it's unfair ie from a blatant scammer.

expatinscotland · 30/06/2014 21:25

Even if they leave you neg feedback, you can open a case with Ebay to get it amended.

carlywurly · 30/06/2014 21:30

Stick to your guns. Return at their own cost, dispute through ebay and resell. It's a real shame that this shit goes on as it spoils ebay for genuine buyers and sellers.

nononodontpointthatatme · 30/06/2014 21:55

I wouldn't resell them without getting them checked independently now. A bit of googling reveals that the manufacturer will check photos and tell you if they are authentic or not so if they come back to me thats what I will do before trying to resell them. I still think they are most likely genuine and I certainly had no doubts beforehand but I am not a designer trainer expert!

I think hooby has it spot on.

We sold a home entertainment item on eBay (collection only). The buyer collected and we showed it turned on, but didn't show all the functions. A little while later, they emailed to say that it didn't work correctly. DH replied to say that we would be happy to refund them once we had received the item back, checked the anti-tamper sticker, and the serial number against our paperwork.

We had no further emails from them!

In future I will always take photos of any identifying marks/serial numbers before posting.

2Kids2Cats1Dog · 30/06/2014 22:26

Be careful they aren't scamming you by returning fakes and keeping your originals..

Dakiara · 30/06/2014 23:01

I would also make sure to block the buyer from any future purchases. :-)
