I collected my friend's DD from nursery after lunch. When I arrived, another little girl (aged about 3 or 4) was in tears and getting a hug from my friend's little girl.

From what I can gather, this little girl had said to her brother that morning that she wished she had a mother like Mummy Pig (from Peppa Pig). Her own mother had overheard her, been furious and told her DD that she didnt love her any more and wouldn't come and collect her from nursery. The little girl had been in tears and asking all the other children to take her home "because her mummy didn't love her any more and wasn't coming to get her".

AIBU to be Shock and think this is horrendous? The staff were just ignoring the little girl until I spoke to one of them, who then came over and started questioning/reassuring her.

I'm nothing to do with the nursery and I don't know the little girl's mother, but I really feel that she should know how hurt and upset her DD was. Any suggestions?

I'm sure nursery staff will bring it up with the mother.

It may be done in a 'Your DD was saying this, oh the stories they tell' kind of way, but it will be said.
