Every thread that has something:

  • Slightly peculiar
  • Sexual
  • a bit far fetched

Automatically are assumed to be a troll. Now perhaps they are but perhaps it is a bizarre or risqué topic. This is more so if the thread is by an established poster.

If you think it's a troll thread then I don't see why not just report it though I am sure hq are bored of being inundated with cries of troll and they will check it out.

Equally unless the thread is violent, perverse or slanderous even if a poster called ICrapToast posts about pooping lumps of poop I can't see how it is harming anyone.

Posting accusations of troll or snidely comments won't delete the troll faster nor will it make the troll think if they actually are a troll.

It seems it's every other thread troll is being shouted at.

I have upmost sympathy if someone is taken in but the majority aren't offensive.

AIBU?

Yes!

Bifauxnen · 29/06/2014 00:17

Autocorrect on my kindle changes autocorrect to incorrect. At least it's self aware.

Yes and no.

Before MN I was a member of another baby website, and I saw some awful trolling on there. People taking money to pay for funeral expenses for made-up stillbirths and the like.

Trolls posting silly shite on AIBU doesn't bother me tho. If I don't think it's credible or funny then I just ignore it.

I've been quite startled to find that if you go against the herd and agree with an OP you end up being accused of being a sock puppet - it's as if people can't cope with the fact that their view isn't universal. I wouldn't mind, but in my case they didn't even bother to do a search against my name: if they had, they'd have discovered that if I had been a sock puppet, I would have to have put one hell of a lot of imaginative work into covering my tracks.

If your GP can't help why did you think a bunch of strangers on the Internet could? Confused

caruthers · 29/06/2014 15:13

@ "The herd" :)

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 29/06/2014 15:41

I love following the herd.

Especially to Greece- on holiday

YABU

There are trolls all over the place getting a warm welcome and tons of attention. It's the troll culture that hacks me off. It's pointless saying if you don't like it just report and ignore, that's not how communications work on internet forums.

If it was, then you could just blithely ignore the troll hunters, but you didn't, you were moved to post about them.

This. For every new poster you see being called troll, there will be 5-6 actual trolls rubbing their hairy little hands with glee at the naive audience they've gathered. And a large portion of those poor little new posters will be trolls, it's the nature of forums, and most regs can spot an iffy poster a mile off. Turn it on it's head, if there were no trolls, there would be no troll hunters. Which came first, which is more damaging?

honeydragon my GP didn't see it as a problem! I had a google and some people had similar problems but nothing really seemed to help. Luckily it has got a bit better with time.

HoneyDragon · 29/06/2014 22:25

Ok, I did misunderstand your post Thanks
