To think that people who announce Facebook clear outs are just looking for attention?

Yes it's another Facebook one, but once again someone has just posted on my feed announcing a "'clear out". Why do it? If your going to delete people just do it and don't tell anyone, they'll be none the wiser. It's attention seeking isn't it.
The one that really gets my goat is when people say things like " congratulations if you are reading this you've survived my latest cull". Get the fuck over yourselves! You are not as important as you think.

AIBU?!

Not having a go btw just wondering. I know it was done to make a point by someone above but they didn't want those people refriending them.

TruJay · 28/06/2014 20:37

finola i want to delete my sister sometimes she put the most stupid bloody statuses sometimes, they make me cringe! Its quite embarrassing lol

drivingmisslazy · 28/06/2014 21:01

I hate this too, along with the people who post status about being upset and can not take anymore, cue loads of people asking whats wrong, only to be told they are not going to say on f/b. aghhh don't post it on facebook then.

TruJay · 28/06/2014 21:30

Haha driving very similar to what my sis does or she'll put a status saying "fuck you all" but then won't elaborate when asked what's up, so irritating!

PurplePidjin · 28/06/2014 21:32

Because I didn't want anyone thinking i was pissed off with them! I just put something like "I'm going to have a bit of an edit of my friends list because there are people I don't hear from much. If I delete you and you wanted to stay, add me back :)" then had a little rejig as it were

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/06/2014 21:36

Yanbu.

When I want to delete people, I just delete them.

People who announce it are looking to:

  1. garner attention
  2. make people feel shit about themselves
Finola1step · 28/06/2014 21:47

I hear ya Trujay. Oh yes.

TruJay · 28/06/2014 21:50

I actually had to get her to delete some of my friends and in-laws that she'd added as they were asking "what's with your sisters statuses?" it was getting stupid

WallyBantersJunkBox · 29/06/2014 07:46

But Purple what is actually the harm in people not responding to you? I mean you don't pay any money per head to have friends on there? So if some people aren't active how does it affect you?

I just sort people into groups - close friends and acquaintances. My posts are automatically set to close friends. Then the others don't receive all my posts unless I want them to.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 29/06/2014 07:49

I've never encountered this on FB. FB is only as good or bad as the friends you have on there

Aeroflotgirl · 29/06/2014 08:19

Yanbu at all, attention seeking flounders!

PetiteRaleuse · 29/06/2014 19:32

OP YANBU people who do that are self indulgent attention seekers. Very dull. I get angsty teens doing it as a sort of popularity contest, though that is still dull, but grown people?

I find it amusing how some (grown up) people see being defriended on FB as the ultimate insult.

I defriend people who annoy me or that I realise I don't actually like. No point in making a song and dance about it.
