Am i being unreasonable?

I find it a bit irritating when my husband walks into a room and turns the light off ...while I'm brushing my teeth for example (as it's an extravagant use of electricity!)

I suppose I've come to think of my husband as a kind of (admittedly less glamorous) superhero saving the world in the most insignificant way one watt at a time...

Ah, but many men do not know how to turn lights OFF!
My DH, for example, who complains if the heating is on when he isn't cold, but will merrily leave a dozen halogen bulbs blazing away.

That would piss me right off. You need to see to be able to spit into the sink, plus teeth cleaning time is the time to gaze critically into the bathroom mirror. Plus, you're an adult who can make your own choices, presumably. How much money does he think he's saving with 2 minutes of the light being switched off?

I would turn the tv off when he's watching it.

definitely play him at his own game... as Joey suggests, stride into the room and switch off the tv/lights/pc and just stride back out.

oh oh oh....and end his phone calls for him. All the mobile radio waves will be frying his brain, so you are not only saving money but Saving His Life as well.

My DH is the same - I'm not allowed to use the lighting in the garage unless I really have to because they're strip lights and use too much electricity but he can have the TV on whilst playing with his iPad (because apparently he is 'not like other men' and can multitask) He will also do things in the dark to save electricity, like using the toilet

Turn them back on again and tell him to pack it in!
we had similar battles here.
I ended up asking him why the hell he thought he was master of the light switches and I would just get up and turn the light back on again.

Mine does this too. He will walk into kitchen in dark looking for sthg without putting light on. If i leave tv for 1 min or radio its off straight away. It is annoying and extends to chargers etc. Its his ocd but least we won't spark a fire grrrr x

Sounds like my DP. He tuts at me sitting in bed reading before I go to sleep ('Dessert, you could read downstairs to save leaving another light on....') but he will fall asleep in front of the tv till after midnight.

Definately switch off the tv

Mine closes the curtains of whatever room he walks in. Even if it's the case of walking in and back out again. Massively annoying lol

When he is watching it. And stroll out without a word.

and tip all his hot drinks away if he ever puts them down...snatch up the cup and empty the contents. into his shoes

I'm a blinds down, lights of kind of person, DH blinds up, lights on. He also leaves lights on in rooms he's vacated (very annoying) and the fan on in the bathroom. All the men in his family seem to do the same. Is it a man thing or did his mother just go round turning lights off after her children?

It's quite comical really as we end up doing a kind of blinds ballet performance throughout the day going in and out of rooms, blinds going up and down and switches on or off depending who is using that particular room!

How do you think i should approach this with him as the 'nice conversations' haven't really worked?

Mine opens windows and then leaves the room, or occasionally the house, leaving me cold and cross because he always opens the ones I can't reach without getting a chair!

thinking about it another thing is he puts his socks in the washing basket balled up so I have to separate them!!

Just walk straight to the light switch and turn it back on.

Don't have a nice conversation about it, just ask him to stop doing it. Be very direct. Do not turn the light off when I am still in the room.

I accidentally do this to DH if I leave a room while he's still in it. I'm assaulted by a loud whiny "Squiggly!!". :)

It's hard to break habits.
