To send dd to school?

DD (9) had a high temperature last night and in the early hours of the morning. Nothing serious, just a cold, but her temp did go up to around 39 at 3am. I was planning to keep her off school today to let her rest, but she has other ideas.

Her temp is down now, still a bit higher than usual (37) but not excessive. She is doing her very best to look well and full of beans, because she is desperate to go to school (she never wants to stay off). I don't think she is 100%, but she'd probably cope in school tbh.

I wouldn't normally worry about colds being infectious, and she doesn't have any other symptoms apart from a cough and a blocked up nose. WIBU to send her to school and hope that she'll be ok?

DH is at home today anyway, so no issues with childcare.

Ah she's a trooper. As it's not D/V I would send her but be prepared for a phone call and warm the teacher she's not 100%.

On another level where do you find these kids that always want to go to school? Grin

I know, it's weird isn't it?! I'd have done anything for a day at home at her age...

Temps are lowest in morning so it will probably rise later. I wouldn't.

Plus it will pass in to others

39 is high

I had force dd to stay off on Tuesday she hadthe runs monday afternoon she looked awful but was being a brave soldier, op send her in if she wants to go if its cold she will be fine

I wouldn't send her if she's had a temp of 39, that's proper fever territory. If you send her in, it's likely she will be sent home as her temperature will rise again through the day. Sending her in will also delay her recovery.

For me the criteria for not going to school are:

  • Fever above 38 during the previous 24 hours
  • D&V
  • Refusal to eat at all (so not being a little bit off)
