to feel Wimbledon's lost something now we have a winner?

I've always loved Wimbledon. I loved getting behind our underdog and getting over-excited on the rare occasion he/she punched above his weight. Once all the Brits were out I would support the under-dogs in the remaining matches.

It doesn't feel the same now we have someone who's expected to do well.

Well, we always expected Henman to do well didn't we!

YABU - Wimbledon is still a great tournament, can't see what difference it makes because Murray won last year.

Frontier · 25/06/2014 14:55

Yes, that's just it Betty "we" as perpetual supporters of under-dogs expected him to do well. No-one else did.

Just pick another player to back.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 25/06/2014 14:58

I do get what you mean. In a way I felt it was ruined once Henman started regularly making the semis.

There was something really exciting about Jeremy Bates (ranked 476 in the world) making it all the way to the third world and very nearly getting a whole set off a seed!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 25/06/2014 14:59

I think "hoped" rather than "expected" though....I always hoped Henman would do well, never expected him to win though, he didn't have the hunger Murray seems to have.

Still, yeah just pick another under-dog to root for as well :)

AgaPanthers · 25/06/2014 15:22

You could always watch the British women losing instead?

Sorry Mumoftwo, but that made me laugh. :o

squoosh · 25/06/2014 17:13

Only in the UK could people feel disgruntled at having a homegrown Wimbledon champ! Grin

londonrach · 25/06/2014 17:15

No!!!!

DelicianoLopez · 25/06/2014 17:26

erm. n.o, now its the excitement at him defending the title.

OOAOML · 25/06/2014 17:31

Personally I just like watching tennis.

bluesbaby · 25/06/2014 17:32

Well, if you were watching yesterday, you would have had the delight of rooting for underdog Murray (Lancashire lass) against Sharapova in the women's singles Grin She's a 247 seed wildcard!

squoosh · 25/06/2014 17:34

247 seed is far too optimistic!

OP needs someone more along the lines of the 24587 seed. With a wooden racket. And a threadbare ball.

halamadrid · 25/06/2014 18:37

Henman wasn't an underdog, he regularly reached the semis.

LoveSardines · 25/06/2014 18:52

I think YABU personally I'm looking forward to watching it :)

MrsVamos · 25/06/2014 18:54

Yabu.

Love Wimbledon.

But I'm biased. Smile

Rainbunny · 25/06/2014 18:59

No, but of course now Murray has won once I have a depressing feeling that he might not ever win again.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 25/06/2014 20:30

Doctortwo Oops! Bit of a typo there!

Grin

Third round!

GatoradeMeBitch · 25/06/2014 21:23

You could back Laura Robson, or some of the other Brit players?

A bit O/T but I will never forget what seemed like all of Wimbledon Centre Court laughing in that year Nadal won and said in his interview that he thought Andy was 'doing really well'. He looked bewildered at the laughter. I always wonder if some of the knobheads laughing at the thought of Andy 'doing well' were cheering him on in the year he won...
