To think Dp and ds should have been grateful that dd and I joined them to watch the football last night....

.......because of all the insights they would have missed without us. For example - how fab the odd pink and blue boots are, how much the crowd looks as it it's made of Lego when they do broad shots of it, what a cool kit the Japanese team have, how daft the Greek supporters looked in their togas, how difficult it would be later for the Japanese supporters to get that red face paint off, how much Drogbha's bottom sticks out when he does throw ins........and many more,

They don't know they're born.

mupperoon · 25/06/2014 09:38

Ha ha! They should be very, very grateful.

My other half has learned a lot about men's hairstyles (what looks good, what looks insanely terrible) from our watching the rugby together over the past 14 years. He's benefitted from my views on "X could be the love child of Y and Z" (all men, naturally). He has also "enjoyed" my meta-commentary on the commentators and their use of English/verbal tics.

BlackeyedSusan · 25/06/2014 09:41

given that ex likes to chat through my programmes that are talk based... I wold love to keep pointing on the screen and asking about who this that or the other players are... hopefully the ones kicking the ball.. [evil]

Hakluyt · 25/06/2014 09:46

We brought them fish finger sandwiches (with tartare sauce and rocket) and wine and coke and everything...........

Fish finger sandwiches? Rocket? Wine?

Good Lord, hakluyt, would you drop round to mine one evening?

King1982 · 25/06/2014 10:00

Greece didn't play japan last night. Maybe you were watching Columbia vs japan.

King1982 · 25/06/2014 10:02

Unless you were flicking between the two matches

Hakluyt · 25/06/2014 10:19

Of course we were flicking between matches! You get a much better idea of what's going on that way................

DP has taken to watching the football with me.

Growing up, the rule was always "no talking when the football was on"

DP does not understand this rule. And talks incessantly.

He also shouts PENALTY for every freekick, says "DEEfence" and thinks he may once have heard of Daniel Sturridge.

I think I should LTB.

WorraLiberty · 25/06/2014 10:26

sing that sounds like my DH

I've had to limit him to 2 "Haaaaaaaand Baaaaaaall!!" per half.

The only time he's allowed more, is if he actually calls it right

Hasn't happened yet....

Hakluyt · 25/06/2014 10:43

Singapore and Worra, they do both know that there's a law that says you have to shut "bash bash bosh, back of the net!" after every goal?

My DH talks during football too, and has absolutely no comprehension of the offside rule. It is very, very annoying Angry Sorry OP, but YABU.

BreadForBrains · 25/06/2014 12:21

I blessed dp with my company for the first of the England games. I made similar observations.

He went out and watched the other ones with his mates - win win! Wink

kentishgirl · 25/06/2014 12:42

I love doing this too. OH (sports mad) takes it all very patiently. For a bit.

We had a nice chat about the South Koreans all having the same haircut and having dyed it an odd orangy brown colour. I also like comparing short length; I favour the sexy shorter ones and he favours the longer ones. We both find the really huge ones that look more like boxers' shorts quite funny. I especially like pointing out the very tall and very short players, in case he hasn't noticed. And asking him to explain the difference between penalties and free kicks and why sometimes the other players make a wall in front of the one kicking it and sometimes they don't. Every single game.

I do reaaaally wind him up over the cricket though. Everything's so funny.

kentishgirl · 25/06/2014 12:43

He quite often goes and watches it in the bedroom now.

LineRunner · 25/06/2014 12:47

My DS won't watch any more of the World Cup in the same room as me now, even though I have a much better understanding of the offside rule than him.
