Hi,

I've started an office job in my 30s, its been a month and still just finding it a miserable and boring existence. Such dull conversations and other people seam to delight in pointing out minor mistakes or picking arguments over little things. To be honest I really don't care about it all, I'm just like whatever its not like anyone is going to die if something isn't perfect.

I'm coming to the conclusion I'm just not an office 9-6 kind of person. Maybe if I had started in my 20s I could of coped. But now I've had such a great life not sat in offices it makes it so hard.

Am I being stuck up or does anyone see my point of view?

Might just stick it out till Xmas for the cash

Interesting perspective, Igneo.

You don't think you are better than everyone else.

Yet you don't do an admin role because that would be beneath you.

Some offices are boring. Some are incredibly exciting and creative. Irrespective of that, you are arrogant and deluded. Either that, or you just articulate yourself in a way which makes you come across as arrogant and deluded. And superior and entitled. If you don't feel these words accurately reflect who you are, I would suggest you read back your posts and try and work out what makes you come across like that. I think it would do you good to have a more realistic self-image.

spegal honey I haven't spouted lies. It all came from the horse's mouth (horse = Spegal).

You just seem to be a victim here. Like I said before either marry someone with money (www.sugardaddy.com) or inherit or whatever some money.

I just pray to god I never have to work with someone like you ever looking down at me, a lowly office worker!

spegal · 25/06/2014 15:38

I didn't say an admin role was beneath me, I said I don't do an admin role as people kept assuming it.

In that case the first bit of your post at 11.11 today is rather misleading isn't it? Please read it back and tell me what you mean by 'I'm not doing an admin job that's beneath me' and then explain how highly skilled and we'll paid your job actually is. That seems to suggest that you feel admin jobs are beneath you but that you are not doing that kind of job, you are doing a superior role. That makes you sound like you think you are better than less well-paid admin people. Regardless of whether that's what you meant, that's how it sounded.

I'm not trying to have a go at you, I'm trying to explain why you are coming across as so horrible so you can work on you interpersonal skills.

SuperFlyHigh · 25/06/2014 17:12

Guybrush - that was one of my suggestions - originally - people skills.

riverboat1 · 25/06/2014 18:26

I don't think OP comes across badly. Its just inflammatory in the context of AIBU, in real life people moan about boring colleagues and boring jobs all the time.

Firsttimer7259 · 25/06/2014 18:34

I started working late in life - 28 - it was a bit of an adjustment to have to structure my work around working hours but it was also quite freeing though annoying at times. Different offices have diff people and office cultures some I liked some I didn't. Give it a chance - if you don't like it after 6 months make plans to move on

Tentedjuno · 29/06/2014 12:41

Never mind the cheese job, do tell us what you can do for three days a week which puts you into the 40% tax bracket and what qualifications are needed (presumably not the ability to dance).

Many a MNetter would happily take your place

FergusSingsTheBlues · 29/06/2014 13:03

Office workers include a huge range of people and jobs, may be you should all calm down. I'm an office worker...In an investment bank. You could define office workers as anything ... What OP means is corporate stuff although I doubt you could swing from giving away lumps of cheese to a 40% tax bracket....

I agree OP, I've been working in offices the past few years and I've found them bitchiest places to work ever, and the drudgery of 9 to 5 mon to fri gets me down. I want a job in transport ideally on a train as a conductor something that gets me out and about and on my feet. I'm just waiting for jobs to come up near me but have to put up with the office til then Hmm

You don’t have to work in an office. You have two degrees, you’re sociable and good at selling/marketing. Why not try something that plays to your strengths? How about teaching or lecturing at a college or uni, becoming a sales rep., a consultant, or trainer in a firm that could use your skills? While you’re still in the office environment are there any courses offered by the company that could help you to move on? Is there any other departments you would prefer to work in? I once worked in an office with a woman in her 40s with a PhD who had been there for 20 years. She was bored to death by her job, but was perfectly resigned to working there for another 20 years until retirement.
