To ask what you take for lunch to work? And to ask your thoughts on agave/ stevia?

I am in a Sainsbury's/ Tesco meal deal rut Sad and am sadly very unimaginative when it comes to food. I cannot face another sandwich though, and the cost adds up over a week.

Tonight I have made a Spanish omelette that I will pop in the fridge and take with me on Monday and Tuesday, maybe with a basic feta salad on the side. Have no idea what else to have for the rest of the week? What are good alternatives? What kind of salad combinations do you find tasty and filling?

I have also started getting a granola cereal, it has lots of seeds which I like and no added sugar and is sweetened with agave. Is this ok or is agave bad?

The other thing I am wondering about is stevia. I got some Tropicana 50 which is essentially watered down juice with stevia, again yay or nay?

Thanks Smile

Whoah! back up a bit - Wellsh " I try to make them veggie as my boss/workplace is meat free."

How can that be a thing? Do you work in a veggie café or something. How can your boss dictate to you what you can and cannot eat?

As it happens I have just finished packing lunch for tomorrow for me and DH. We are having a breakfast. No not a fry-up. We are on the 5:2 and tomorrow is a fast day. We are having 25g of Jordans Granola, 100g of fat free fromage frais, 20g blueberries and 50g of strawberries - which I calculate is 188 calories altogether. Yum

I'm not at work at the mo (SAHM) but I used to take boxes of pasta saladinto work with me.
Basically pasta, passata, sliced chopped onions/red peppers/whatever in it.
Or cous cous salad.

MrsMikeDelfino · 23/06/2014 00:27

saladinto - salad into!

TOADfan · 23/06/2014 00:33

Im sorry but that all sounds horrible and expensive.
I'm in a lunch rut because I don't eat left overs and find it too expensive to make a packed lunch (yes for me it is more expensive) it's too hard :-(

HicDraconis · 23/06/2014 05:32

Sushi is neither horrible nor expensive. Rice is cheap! Likewise homemade pizza slices - it's only horrible if you use a filling or topping that you don't like (& why would you?!)

TheRealAmandaClarke · 23/06/2014 06:37

Oh sushi is horrible. Grin
And I like any other kind of rice and I love fish. But There's something about the texture, temperature and unusual sweetness that I find deeply unpleasant.

My best work days are the ones when I fast. No having to think about lunch, better concentration.
Leftovers are good IMHO.

fatlazymummy · 23/06/2014 07:08

I usually have the same thing for lunch. A wholemeal pitta with either cheese or houmous and salad.
I don't have an opinion on the other things. I've never bought them, and never will.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 23/06/2014 07:15

All these exciting lunches. I am such a bore, just soup or sandwiches for me. Every day. I think I might try to mix things up a bit.

northlight · 23/06/2014 07:31

TOAD Odd on the one hand to complain of expense and on the other reject the cheapest option, leftovers. You do realise no one means the scrapings from last night's plates. We're talking about cooking a little extra with packed lunches in mind.

If, like many people, you don't like eating the same thing two days running, you could freeze a portion or make batches of soup or casserole specially and freeze them. Much cheaper than buying lunch from a supermarket and offers you choice in the morning. Just remember to label stuff unless you enjoy having a lucky dip.

A lot of the time I am using up the last of the cheese or ham or tomatoes or peppers or whatever from the fridge. All part of my campaign not to throw anything away and save money. Odds and ends of vegetables sautéed and made into a frittata is a great lunch. The same odds and ends and a stock cube make a great soup.

TOADfan · 23/06/2014 21:35

No I under stand where you are coming from northlight I just can't eat them psychology. Stems from food poisoning as a child.

Plus I don't do the cooking in my house. Most nights I don't eat a dinner and when I do it's my OH who buys and cooks it.

I have tried a few times to buy stuff but once you add in a juice plus salad and fresh bread every few days it works out cheaper to get a *£3 meal deal or £1.40 pack of sushi from Tesco.

Yeah I reckon those have to be loss leaders.

ChickenMe · 24/06/2014 13:07

Leftovers. The night before I make a large meal (eg chilli, curry, gluten free pasta bake etc) and there are always leftovers which I freeze. If we get Indian take away there are ALWAYS leftovers. I freeze that too and take it to work. Assuming u have a microwave?

MyFairyKing · 24/06/2014 13:22

I have leftovers or salads as I don't 'do' sandwiches.

My favourites are: non-seafood paella, chicken and ratatouille, cold sausages, smoked salmon with picked onions in salad (requires extra strong mints for afterwards!), cold salmon with potato salad, tuna and boiled egg salad, chunky soups (I like tomato, butternut squash and minestrone) with rice or noodles, spaghetti bolognaise, cottage pie and cold spanish omelettes. Chicken and rice/noodles dishes feature rather a lot because they're easy to cook when I get home. I also don't eat a lot of red meat but I do try because I get bored of the same foods.

squoosh · 24/06/2014 13:32

I don't eat sandwiches either for lunch.

Soup, prawn cocktails, spanish omelette, pâté on crackers are the kinds of work lunches I have.

Booooooooooooooooooooo · 24/06/2014 13:48

Nothing. I work through so I can go home eary and break the law I think

I am ravenous by the time I get home and eat ervything in sight. I also feel light headed all afternoon in work and don't get a lot done Blush

I dont't have access to a kettle, fridge or microwave. I need to get into the habit of bringing nuts and fruit in.
