To serve this for tea?

So it's hot, I've had a busy weekend to end a week from hell and I have just served the DC tea in the garden.

My neighbour has pulled a real judgy face and said some PA crap about it being ok to have 'dirty food' a couple of times a year but children should be raised on good food.

Guess what I served them?

Cheese and ham toasties, cucumber sticks and grapes. They are getting watermelon slices for afterwards.

AIBU to serve them such dirty dirty food the poor lambs? Or is she a bit odd?

Your meal is healthy, balanced delic food packed with nutrients.
Maybe she is a low fat fascist faddist or a vegan ?
Confused

BigChocFrenzy · 22/06/2014 19:55

She said dirty food was "ok a couple of times per year", which sounds very disapproving

Gileswithachainsaw · 22/06/2014 20:02

That is the worst meal EVER are you nuts?

Get in that kitchen and cook them a proper meal right now!

MrsBartowski · 22/06/2014 20:06

True BigChoc.

Blush Ok Giles... Any suggestions?

She sounds very silly. Laugh at her rigid and shortsighted ways.

Does she have DCs? Bet they'll prefer your house!

Clutterbugsmum · 22/06/2014 20:25

My children have dinner/tea like that most days as they have dinner at school.

And for the record 'my Bob' aged 5 doesn't eat peas or corn because he is not a vegetarian Grin.

In this weather I just settle for my children eating anything.

Roundedbuttocks90 · 22/06/2014 20:31

Nothing wrong with that! It's not as if they are eating pizza shop kebabs, deep fried mars bars and drinking red bill. Stupid woman. Take no notice

Gileswithachainsaw · 22/06/2014 20:33

Hop down to your local organic, whole food store and make a nice quinoa salad after you hand make the cheese and slaughter your free range pig

CremeEggThief · 22/06/2014 20:52

Me and DS just finished veggie hot dogs, on the sofa in front of the telly :).

windchime · 22/06/2014 21:01

I am allergic to cucumber, so on that alone, YABU.

fuzzpig · 22/06/2014 21:08

The answer to this is: 'Yes, 'dirty food' is fine a couple of times a year (wft) but being a PA, judgy cow every day is less acceptable'.

Ragwort · 22/06/2014 21:20

We have meals like that most evenings, we are busy, out and about - DH and DS playing lots of sport (so clearly fit and healthy Grin) & we do lots of voluntary work in the evenings; I have neither time nor inclination to cook 'meat and two veg' type meals more than a couple of nights a week. We have packed lunches as well Grin.

It's only on Mumsnet that people seem to eat 'proper' meals every night, I always look at the meal planning thread in amusement - who really cooks sea bass mid week? Hmm

Cardinal · 22/06/2014 21:22

Any chance she was angry that it wasn't a roast on a Sunday?

NoodleOodle · 22/06/2014 21:26

What a weird and rude neighbour. Why do people think it's ok to comment on what others are eating? Why are they even interested enough to notice, let alone comment, unless it's a big, obvious, smoky BBQ that a neighbour couldn't help but know?

Kerryp · 22/06/2014 21:28

lol, what a joke, nothing wrong with it. Don't worry op I have nosy neighbours too

OhFFSWhatsWrongNow · 22/06/2014 21:41

Why was it dirty food? Were the grapes flashing their fanjos??

Sounds perfectly healthy (and yummy) to me.

Laquitar · 22/06/2014 21:49

If she calls this 'dirty food' then what she calls a kebab??

hagarthorne · 23/06/2014 00:03

Are you sure she said 'dirty'
Perhaps she said 'party' and you misheard.

I've never heard anyone use the expression 'dirty food.'

MrsMikeDelfino · 23/06/2014 00:18

Nosey cow. I'd be wanting to tell her to go stuff herself. although I wouldn't as I'm a big wuss in RL
Absolutely nothing wrong with cheese and ham toasties, cucumber sticks and grapes.
That's all your food groups right there! Carbs, calcium, protein, vegetables and fruit.
Serve them deep fried turkey twizzlers in the garden next time just to piss her RIGHT off. Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 23/06/2014 00:34

corn on the bob is very dirty... bob was another word for poo where I used to teach...

Amy106 · 23/06/2014 03:47

You have a very strange neighbour. That's a lovely, healthy tea. Just ignore her. I hope this week is a better one for you.

Monty27 · 23/06/2014 03:55

Get a higher fence and paint silly cow on her side Grin
