We live in a tiny flat. It's not ideal but it's all we can afford and we're doing our best to make it nice.

Storage is at a premium so we've just rejigged the kitchen a bit and gained about 4 feet of space. It's to the left as you enter our miniscule kitchen.

It's not large enough for a table or anything and DH is wanting to put floor to ceiling shelves in there.

I asked what for? All the cupboards are well organised and there's plenty of space for food and crockery etc.

He says "For bags and things"

Hmm

We have a cupboard for that. It's a mess at the moment as he's not built the shoe rack he promised and needs more hooks.

An open floor to ceiling shelving thing will look FUGLY and what's more, I don't want bags and shite on display! I told him to make something with doors so stuff can be hidden...he's all "What for? You want a show kitchen...it won't happen here!"

As though I can't have things nice because it's bloody tiny! AIBU to insist he either makes a little thing with doors or just leaves it alone? I suggested a butcher's block on castors...then we'd have extra counter space and some hooks beneath for hanging shite on...or a vegetable rack thing...but not TONNES of random shelves for BAGS!!!

Stick to your guns - my DH is like this, clear a space and immediately he wants to fill it with crap.

Redid the bedroom after 10 years last year, next thing I know he has big ideas of filling the walls with pictures - never wanted a picture on them for the last 10 years but now. He mentions it a least once a week, I just ignore and occasionally glare then firm no.

Cross post - love the chalkboard idea too :)

Loopylala7 · 22/06/2014 00:57

Love it, you must get it - I'm sure you could shove a few plastic bags in there?!!

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 22/06/2014 00:59

I love the way it folds up and away so the chalk board covers the unit. It's neat. Needs a way to open slowly so it doesn't fall on someone's foot.

Hippy ooh I love yours too...your stools are very nice...DC would adore those. Yours looks about right for our space too! I will show dh both pics to inspire him but not let him read the thread as I've called him an arse quite a few times. Grin

Loopy perhaps I could shove DH in there too!

Haha, mind you, might do him good to read that bit - lol

Good luck

RockinHippy · 22/06/2014 01:04

Ps, the stools were Habitat, they've taken some bashing by DD & large DH & are still wearing well & easy to clean with painting etc - I do believe you can still buy them online

MrsWinnibago · 22/06/2014 01:11

Ooh can you Hippy!? Off to look now! Thanks.

Anything you store in the kitchen on open shelves would get horribly greasy. So no, you can't have bags and things that can't easily be cleaned. Plus it sounds like you are the one who spends most time in there, so you get to decide how it's laid out.

Ikea is always worth looking at for wall mounted small tables. They also have lots of decent quality folding stools and chairs.

What about this chalk board?
