To think a 4 star hotel should be a nice experience...

We were involved in a house fire and have been located to a local '4 star' hotel. We are all fine and insurance is dealing with everything, but I would like a reasonable level of accommodation....

Crust dropped on floor by dd last night, not hoovered, up, or even cleared up. We only realised she had dropped it, when we saw it today
floors in room not hoovered, crumbs left on side.
Stairs and corridors not hoovered.
Radiator hanging off wall
Pigeons roosting on roof and keeping us awake at night
5 quid charge for room service
One small bottle of body wash and no other toiletries whatsoever. Located away from bath, so you have to get out of the bath every time ou want to use it
Single glazing ensuring full benefit of noisy main road outside and dirty, falling apart window frames
Shrubs and bushes resembling a minor jungle
Weeds in driveway
4 inch deep puddles in car park after small rainfall
No air conditioning
2 biscuits, 1 cup and 2 glasses for 3 people
Toilet rolls not refilled
Light at side of bed not working

Are all 4 stars like this? Hmm

You need to get on trip advisor

Orangeanddemons · 20/06/2014 16:36

The reviews for it are hilarious. I've looked. Unfortunately there is no other hotel nearby.

Yes, no 4 star hotel should have noisy birds on the roof.

annielouise · 20/06/2014 16:39

I've been in crap 5 stars so not surprised 4 star is bad. Hope you get some housing sorted out soon, living in a hotel can't be fun.

CarpetBagger · 20/06/2014 16:47

how long will you be out for. we have this too but I didnt trust our insurance to house us they were trying to force us into their choice of accmdation, ie Travel Lodge ( for three months).

I said no, and I found local holiday cottage and rented that out. perhaps if you are going to be there for length of time you should do same,

Orangeanddemons · 20/06/2014 16:55

We've just managed to secure the deposit on a house this morning. Still looking at end of next week though.

What CarpetBagger said, and remember that you have the final say in where you should live while you are away from your home. The hotel sounds horrible, get out. And do not put up with the inevitable crap from your utter bastard insurers.

Orangeanddemons · 20/06/2014 17:46

The insurance have been fine.this is the only hotel near us. It's just it so isn't a 4 star.,

WHAT ABOUT b and b's? if its only a week you can bear it.

we had three months. there was no way i was ending up in a shit hole.

can you complain to hotel also?

hollyisalovelyname · 20/06/2014 19:45

Report to your tourist board and go on Trip Advisor

Migsy1 · 20/06/2014 19:48

Can you put a link to the hotel? Complain to the management. £5 room service is standard though but radiator hanging off wall and dirt etc. is appalling.

treaclesoda · 20/06/2014 19:55

I'm being pedantic but does 4 star not just refer to the facilities that it is able to tick the boxes for, not the actual standard of the hotel? I can't remember what the specifications are but its all sorts of things like number of lifts, leisure facilities, public spaces provided, tea and coffee facilities, whether there are separate shower cubicles or just a bath over the shower, 24 hour reception. In theory you could have a five stars if you have eg a concierge service and a helipad, but the place could be filthy and decrepit.

Anyway, even if it was a one star hotel, I'd want it to be clean. Hope you're out of there soon.
