To ask where the house fire/insurance/PIL thread went?

Has it been zapped or are my searching skills rubbish?

OP posts:

i take the view that anything that is more than 3 paragraphs is not true. makes life simple. the fire pil thing was bullshit because that is not how house insurance works, and house fires are emotive for the insurance industry, therefore claims are prioritised. the chances of a seemingly wealthy family having no insurance and willingly camping on someones floor when the insurers would pay for accomodation is minimal.

i was taken in by the zeebruge one for a few days, then it got ridiculous. tbf only beleived it because the username had been around for a while before the posting.

BlameItOnTheMoonlight · 21/06/2014 10:29

But the Zebrugge one was never deleted. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/adoptions/1113419-All-a-bit-complicated

Oh look, come off it. We've all had bizarre stuff happen in our lives but we dont then novelise it, giving endless background details, then ask all faux innocently 'is it me? Should I accept my MIL sleeping on my husband's back/ my best friend living in the garden and stealing my post/ my uncle wearing my clothes and calling himself Matilda etc etc.

Other classic signs are an odd evasion of glaring questions, very long OP with very short updates and a very well practiced 'blog' style of writing.

If it looks fucking outrageous and you're outraged on the OPs behalf, you don't recognise their name yet they are expert MN button pushers, then they made it up.

Really, they did.

CarryOn90 · 21/06/2014 10:31

How do MN know it's fake - do they just make an educated guess and take it down?

MorrisZapp · 21/06/2014 10:33

Forgot another one. If they aren't female or do not fit the usual poster profile but had 'heard of mumsnet being a good place for advice' and then found AIBU, they are making it up.

ComposHat · 21/06/2014 12:50

I dunno Maurice Aibu users tend to be a diverse bunch as most threads aren't child specific. I don't fit the classic profile of a MN user being male and childless. I am doing a PhD and it is something of an isolating experience and Aibu fills the need for social chit chat.

PassTheCakeitsbeenatough1 · 21/06/2014 13:01

Oh was the GP party/anorexia one fake? I fell for that one. Just going to catch up with the Zebrugge one now it sounds unbelievable!

I've often thought the ones which are really far fetched are actually writers trying out tasters for their new novels :).

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 21/06/2014 13:05

If the PIL/fire/insurance one is going to be a novel, I'd quite like to read that one!

Dubjackeen · 21/06/2014 13:54

is it me? Should I accept my MIL sleeping on my husband's back/ my best friend living in the garden and stealing my post/ my uncle wearing my clothes and calling himself Matilda etc etc.

Grin I skimmed that house insurance/ dogs/cats/in laws and the rest, and thought of the Friends episode where Phoebe wonders at what point she had gone too far in making up a story, where they are trying to keep a dog hidden from Chandler. Grin
ComposHat · 21/06/2014 14:10

Yes I am baffled why the Zebrugge one is atill up. It is such obvious guff. It isn't even good fiction, it is like a crap victorian melodrama.

. The poster went from getting the first inkling wasn't quite right with her parents will to moving into her old family home and her wicked uncle and aunt being led away in handcuffs via a wickef foster carer and chance meeting with her father's old solicitor in three weeks.

GoringBit · 21/06/2014 14:50

Alphonso wasn't real? I thought he might well not be, but am a little bit sad that he isn't.

Absolutely shit idea for a book plot, though.

StephenManganiseverywhere · 21/06/2014 15:26

How can people be surprised that these threads are Bullshit? I think they are most probably posted by the same sick person, desperate for attention

Coconutty that is NO way to talk about the hardworking MNHQ people Grin

Chippednailvarnish · 21/06/2014 16:16

What about a total number of posts by the Op's name?
